  1. Ok folks, built in just under a week, the Entex 1/144 Aero Spacelines Super Guppy: It's a weird looking aircraft that's for sure, but I'd never seen one of these kits built before so I thought it was about time. Now, what's next...? Cheers, and Happy New Year! Dean

  2. This the Revell-Monogram F/A-18C updated to depict a Late Lot F/A-18C Hornet in the markings of VMFA-212 CO's jet circa 2005. Aftermarket enhancements include cockpit parts from Black Box, replacement wheels from Royale Resin, MAW-Decals resin nose & Late Lot centerline pylon, and intake covers & nav lights from Steel Beach. Photo-etched HUD frame and canopy details came from the Model Technologies set included with the Hi-Tech boxing of the Monogram Hornet. Many Hasegawa parts were used in place of the Monogram parts. These include the wing leading and trailing surfaces, boarding ladder, wing pylons, external tanks, and afterburner tail feathers. The colors were primarily Model Master, Polly S, and Tamiya acrylics. Updates to kit includes several Late Lot Hornet features (confirmed in photos) such as the IFF antennas on the nose, swept UHF antennas, GPS dome antenna, NACES seat, and angled centerline pylon. (I neglected to replicate the "goldish tint" on the canopy that this jet had.) The AIM-120 AMRAAM and AIM-9X Sidewinders were sourced from the Revell Super Hornet kit. Squadron markings were Superscale decals mixed with MAW decals to overcome the shortcomings of the Superscale set. Standard stencils were a mix of MAW decals and Fightertown decals. The WIP thread is here -> LINK This project just gets in under the wire for 2012, but its finally finished! Critiques are certainly welcome, but I'll admit I made a mess installing the windscreen and canopy. If anyone has suggestions how to fix this problem on future projects, I'm open to reading your solutions. Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!

  5. Hi everyone I built this one OOB and used Humbrol enamel paints. No real dramas other than the decals being very thick, plus some of the decals on the rotor blades broke. I'll probably remove the decals from the blades and paint the yellow stripes on. I always wanted to built this scheme to complete my small collection of Cobra's. Thanks for looking. Greg

  7. I still have no idea how one successfully builds an all resin kit. Assuming the bottle of super glue is not rock solid to begin with I always end up with mismatched parts, my fingers stuck together and the dog under the dining table with his paws over his ears. Those who manage it have my complete admiration.

  8. It's all Burnt Sienna oils, first layer was just washes and streaking, then dry, acrylic varnish and heavier spots and streaks. A couple of quick shots, first the whole thing with Yarmouth in place: Second, the quarterdeck and hanger of Broadsword ready for priming and painting so I can button up and work on the main details, the hanger will include the Lynx that famously lost it's nose to a bomb.

  9. Really enjoyed this one, I was putting the decals on while my daughter was in labour, great way to concentrate the mind and take it off other things :-) The pohotography is great but its the best I can do for now. Comments welcome. I should have said the photography is not great, typo.

  10. Just a quick teaser for a comprehensive decal covering virtually every operational Vulcan B.2 there was, coming soon from fündekals and designed for the beautiful little Pit Road 1/144 Vulcan kit! Stay tuned for more information on what, when, and how much (but it will include full stencils for both white and camouflaged airplanes)... J

  11. Hello everyone... My first topic here... I build this Hind for Tsjopper Bob's groupbuild of Russian Helicopters on the Modelbrouwers forum, which ends tomorrow. The building threat is here:http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=196&t=36728 It's the quite nice Hobby Boss kit with an Eduard interior detail set adding some belts en cockpitpanels, and a little scratchwork like antenna's and wires. The decals I uses are from the very nice set by Linden Hill (72012). I wanted to use the Slovak decals first, but I found out that the registration code's are having a white outline, which the real thing does not. I've been looking a lot at this part of Britmodeller, so it's time to add a little something too. Tips are most welcome! Regards, Mark

  12. Hi all, haven't had the chance to post this on here, so here is a brief catch up on what has been going on. Returned to modelling after a protracted break of about 4 years, and decided to start with a build of a plane close to my heart- it was on Ansons that my late Grandfather served out the war, both at RAF Wigtown in Scotland, and later at RAF Bishop's Court in Northern Ireland, working as a radio engineer. I have wanted to build one for a long time, and decided that it was the right time to do so. I didn't just want to build the plane- I wanted to build an operational one that has seen a bit of use being kept airworthy as a diorama. What better to go with it than the ubiquitous Austin Tilly?! Also, it is an excuse to get the RAF groundcrew figures out of the stash and do something with them! box shot In box- this is a seriously detailed kit inside and out, with a whole host of Resin and PE as standard. Interior with scratchbuilt coffee cup and detail- I wanted this to be a well used airframe, so weathered it fairly heavily inside and added the cup (made from a 1:48 Swordfish torpedo and some spare PE) to give it the impression of being 'used and abused'. A bit of artistic licence used here... Closed up with paint and decals Anson done Completed the accompanying Tilly and where I am currently at More to follow Thanks for looking! the base is a granite worktop protector from Sainsbury's, masked, primed, painted and given a scatter. This will be weathered and oilstained when I position the Annie and Tilly on completion.

  13. Here's my only one for 2012 Revell's Arado E-555 1/72 paper project in what-if markings. Built Out of the box, lovely kit, fit is perfect! Had fun painting it! Hope you like it!

  14. Hi Chaps, while the new study/ spare room/ modelling chamber is set up, I've put the Typhoon on hold, but to keep the modelling cells active I've made a start on this baby. Now I know you all think FM kits are, by repute, made by nutters for the insane ( well a lot of them are...) but the Tiger isnt actually too bad. For a start all the parts dry fit OK, and its just a question of some heavy duty clean up before the build can begin. Think of it as a cross between a vacform and a resin kit from about 10 years ago. ie not too hard just time consuming. The point is I can do all the part prep at the kitchen table using a modelling board, then clear it away - so while I await the Modelling HQ its a perfect chance to get the leg work done. Now if I can find the camera charger I'll post a few pics.... Jonners, back at the plastic

Here's what actually got 'completed' Revell 1:32 He 162: Hasegawa 1:32 Raiden - Military in Scale - October 2012: ZM 1:32 Skyraider: And finally - a project that provided the most FUN - HMS Fearnought from the Steampunk Group Build: So - a little less than planned - but some good fun to be had! Student Report 2012 - Ogilvie I. - must try harder! Yes Sir! Iain

  17. This is my final finished build of the year the 1/48 Tamiya Messerschmitt Me 262A-2a w/Kettenkraftrad built OOB with the addition of a antenna from fishing line. Painted in the markings of an aircraft from 2/KG51 "Edelweiss " , Rheine October 1944. All the main painting has been done using Xtracrylix Acrylic RLM colours finished with a matt coat with some light weathering with a oil wash and some pastels. This boxing comes with the addition of a Kettenkraftrad. The finish. Thanks for looking. Martin

  18. Most of the year went on my still unfinished HE-111, here's the few I finished this year: Hase 1/48 Draken Revell 1/32 Arado and HpH catapult Airfix seafire with 'super-action-spinning-prop' I know, scraping the barrel And that's it. Three models. One year. I'll get me coat. Nick

  20. I take my build further than most before starting the paint job, masking becomes a lot trickier, but not impossible, and as I use the airbrush for everything but details, painting is still starightforward. The benefit is that I don't ruin the paint with sloppy superglue work - as I'm sure I would. As a side effect, with a coat of primer it starts to look like a ship very quickly:

  21. Thanks for all the comments everyone - it's kept me motivated over the past few weeks - of working on Broadsword. I really enjoy these older WEM kits, they basic shapes and complex fittings are all pretty good, but there is loads of detail to add to bring them up to modern standards, by my rough reckoning, there are now about 700 components on the kit, before priming, it's easy to see the brass, plastic and other extras:

  24. That is pretty mega, maybe a tad over-weathered, but interesting nonetheless. Are the tracks maybe a bit too slack though? I love the small touches, like the three waterbottles on the rear bin.

  26. Well, I had very similar views but recently I have worked a lot with cyano. Historically, I have stuck myself rather than the kit, lost most of the glue and the rest went hard before I used it all. Following on would be weeks of sinus probs from the fumes. Praise be! There is an answer. I bought a bottle of Roket odourless (which is also very thin) from a local model railway shop and haven't looked back, totally sold on it. 'Use of without wasting' was the next thing to be addressed. Save all old glue bottle spouts and when you want to use the cyano, pull off the unbroken and sealed spout, fit an old one and off you go. Use of those little blue Micro Tips is also useful - push fit it over the spout and you can apply small quantities as a spot or a bead along a seam, or even get the parts lined up and held with clamps etc. then run it along the seam like a vacform with MEK. Of course, this part of the operation is a little easier with super thin cyano but then the fumes problem will reappear. Obviously, not everyone suffers with that though. If you are quick, the spout and Micro Tip can be rescued by cleaning in Glue Buster afterwards. Alternatively, with the spout pulled out, you can dip into the cyano with whatever other tool you wish - old bit of wire, cocktail stick etc. Refit the original unbroken spout to the bottle after completing the operation and the cyano will stay fresh for next time. And, I breathe wonderfully freely afterwards. Now that's magic! Suddenly, resin kits are on the agenda and it is a good feeling after years of looking at them in my stash and wondering, like you, if I would ever manage one.

  27. Here's my completed my Airfix Spitfire XII. I started this back in June 2011, but it was put into storage whilst I went off travelling. I can't remember exactly what extras I added. There's some PE in the cockpit, Ultracast wheels, resin Exhausts and some other bits. I had a minor finger-print mishap whilst spraying the exhaust staining so I decided to cover it up with plenty of weathering. I hope you enjoy. Constructive feedback always welcome. 31. Yeah, I've tried it on other browsers and I'd emptied the cache and did all the good things Jennings suggested and it still doesn't work so like you the problem is at a level I can't fix. As for getting a Mac - I'd rather pluck my nose-hairs with a pair of locking wire pliers! The trouble with a Mac is you can't get one without it coming with I-Smug. Wez

  34. @Neil Ah, you were already there with the jets. OK then, an aircraft carrier I've seen some of the work on Military Mesh and it's very impressive but personally I prefer what you're doing - using 3D models as a means to an end for 'real' paintings. I can appreciate the skill that goes into digital work but it never seems to have the immediacy of the more traditional methods.

  35. Well folks, it has been a long time since I last posted, usual story of life and work commitments, but I thought I would share this one with you all. It is a ‘What-If’ Post Apocalyptic build of a ‘blockage-runner’. Based on the Bronco Models Buffalo for the body, chassis and wheels. The rest is a combination of evergreen stock, spare PE and Live Resin bits and bobs. I will let the pictures do the rest, hope you all like. Chris.

  38. You can count me in as a fully paid up member of the "Oh no, not another Spitfire/Mustang /FW-190" group!! All they do is make me :sleep_1:However, feel free to have another chuckle at my expense!! Naturally, I fully accept the valid commercial reasons for those ( to me anyway) dull , boring types but, what the hell, Airfix will NEVER please everybody. There's more than enough to keep me happy in the new range. So, I'm happy.

  43. Quick update. I've done a little light weathering with the airbrush and also some Promodeller Dark Dirt wash. The whole aircraft has received a light coat of varnish and all the masks have been removed. That all went well and I'm rather chuffed with the result I've also fixed the main gear and wheels in place. I'm just thinking about what else I need to do. I think this is pretty much everything: decal props and add them to the model paint tail wheel assemble and paint bomb bay doors assemble the remaining .50 cal guns and Eduard barrels repair broken aerials and add missing aerials including scratch built airborne grocer scratchbuild jostle transmitter add Eduard landing flaps
