  2. But don't you understand? All kits must have these panel lines today otherwise how will a dark weathering wash be applied? Models will never look realistic and suitably weathered unless they have black lines all over them, made even more prominent of course by some extra pre-shading of each panel line... just look at all those thick black panel lines all over the real thing in the picture you posted! On a more serious note... I'm very much looking forward to seeng what you do with this Woody - I'm sure you won't disappoint us. As others have said it'll be intersting how the panel lines look under a coat (or ten) of paint. Tom

  7. Hello Here is my latest build, the lovely Airfix 1/48 Lightning F6. I have picked up a few Lightnings, so intend to work my way through the major colour schemes. I finished my second NMF Lightning F1 earlier this year, so now onto the F6 in its last scheme; three tone grey. I added an Aeroclub nose, Two Mikes intake cover and NeoMega cockpit and finished it with Humbrol Enamels. I used the Xtradecal Decals as the newer Airfix boxing doesn't come with the markings I wanted and my older boxes decals looked a little past their best. The good thing about the later versions was they were starting to look a bit tired, so can be weathered a bit more than the early NMF's. Next one will be the green/grey camo version. I am really happy with the way this one turned out. Thanks for looking. Ian

  9. This one has been sitting on a shelf in my office for almost 7 years. One of the last models I completed using enamels (Humbrol, brush painted). Hope you enjoy it.

  10. Oh dear, "I'll show them" I said, "It can't be that bad" I said. I built this as a little project for myself. Always wanted a 48 Fury. I added Eduard belts to the waaaaaaaaaay shallow cockpit. The cowl was in six parts, the wing didn't fit at the fold point, the props are, well I'm not sure what they are and s for the decals? They were completely the wrong colour and size for this machine, I replaced them with Fantasy Workshop items except for the under wing codes. I digress, it would be a good base for conversion but if you want a quick build or if you have 100% accuracy in mind she's not for you. Anyway here she is. Thanks for looking.

  11. Another one from the display shelf. Classic Airframes Boulton & Paul Defiant built stright from the box. This is the second issue of this kit (, the first had many shape issues ) Pity this one is not readly available as its a nice kit Hope you all like it , comments wellcome.

  12. This one is a real beauty ..... no apologies necessary at all ! Sea Fury's are fine-looking craft and this replica displays that extremely well. Mike

  13. Looking good Al. Nice recovery with the wings. I have one of these ready for primer (doing it in its Flanker guise) and has been for a while as it got packed up during the recent house move. This was the kit where I did the wing thing similer to the Flanker I'm doing. Thought I would try it after building the Bunker Buster version and discovered the step. Steve

  16. I'm always saying that texture plays a huge part in making a model look realistic. You have just proved my point for me. Look at that exhaust. The burned rust colour is excellent, but what what sets this apart is the rough texture of the part. It really looks as though it has spent a lot of time at a very high temperature. Superb!

  17. Cracking build, love the chipping, are they the kit tracks? And how did you paint them?

  18. It's Rollout time! The basic airframe is assembled, a scratch-built tailplane is in place, and the Bisquito can give the world its first look! So, onwards to completion!

  22. Another test to check I can successfully post images. This time its the lovely Airfix Seafire. I originally made a right botch up of building this as the FR47. After being left lonely, three-quarter finished, on a back shelf in the shed, I pulled it out, stripped off the paintwork with oven cleaner (losing the tail wheel doors as the eagle eyed will notice), built up the nose with filler and scrap plastic (as I was missing that piece as well) and rebuilt it as the FR46. Brush painted with Tamiya acrylics, only other addition was a vac form canopy (Falcon I think). Thanks for looking.

  24. My goodness, you don't mess around- what are you going to build next week?! I like your idea- I'd been thinking Vietnam scheme would have looked quite plausible, though maybe not enough of a departure from some real-world camo? bob

  27. Nice work nonetheless, Sir. Far as I can tell, the worst of this kit consists of the shallow 'pit (a pretty 60s looking thing anyway, with an awful seat -I wonder if Trumpeter were just going through the motions, knowing full well that many of us will toss it in favour of resin anyway!) and the just plain WRONG canopy/cockpit opening, which is fixable but unforgivable. Is the prop really that far off? Unfortunately, the wheels are! Yea, did have to tweak the outer wing fit on mine a little, but it helps if you fix a few plastic card strips around the inside of the fold-line.

  28. OK - heres where I am - paint scheme has had an oil wash ( light grey on the sky, and a mix of light grey and brown of the EDSG- to giv eit all just a hint of "at sea" grime) and then its been flattened out a tad. UC legs and wheels all added, exhaust flame dampers given a bit of "use" and a little bit of pastel has been brushed onto the EDSG to suggest a hint of fading. Its all very subtle as I want the model to look pretty clean and well maintained, with just a hint of lived-in! Got a few details to sort out - arresting frame, UC bay doors, back seat Johnny's hatch etc, but its getting there.... Cheers for all the comments. Jonners

  34. OK, it's now fairly clear why nobody has ever used my masterful new technique. It doesn't bloody work. Heres my framing:- and heres the tin:- Hmm. Even something as thin as tape looks like scaffolding. I'm now wondering about paint, a few coats of Mr Surfacer would provide raised frames perhaps? On the plus side at least there's no harm done attempting it this way around. Back to the drawing board then Nick

  35. Sad that the name go the same way as ERA. Now owned by a tinpot garage in an even more tinpot village in North Cambs selling Lotus 7 lookalike mobile sheds! Christ alone only knows what will get the Lola name pinned on it?

  39. Defenestration seemed to occur regularly in the Neuralgia Club in Deci. I've been through that window myself! Eventually they replaced the window with a big sheet of perspex which would clip straight back in to the frame.
