  1. Afternoon everyone, Finished this one about a week ago for CAS GB, just got round to taking the snaps. It's the Weekend edition of the kit, plus a Pavla seat and turned metal pitot. The kit was nice to build, no real issues, I'll deffinately build another! Painted freehand with my H&S Evo, using a mix of Gunze and Tamiya. Thanks for looking Phil Build thread if you're interested http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=234922966&st=20#entry1126273

  2. Hello to Britmodeller.com! My next project is going to be the beautiful IJNAF Mitsubishi F1M2 Reikan codenamed 'Pete' by the Americans. The kit is the 1/48 Hasegawa one.. and the dio will show a relaxation scene in Satawan Atoll, Mortlock islands in early July 1943.At this point I'd like to thank my good friend George 'Arawasi' Eleftheriou http://arawasi-wildeagles.blogspot.gr/),for his help and invaluable info.. I made some minor improvements in the tiny cockpit and I am about to put the two re-riveted fuselage halves together.. Thanx for looking at my work guys! Cheers, Panagiotis.

  4. This is the eduard kit built OOB except for the decals and an Aries exhaust. I still need to add a couple of small parts but I'm calling it finished. Painted with Lifecolor and Tamiya paints and the decals are from Kopro.

  6. I just wanted to share the following with you all here on BM. A work colleague of mine has a son in his local ATC Squadron, that being 2292 ( Marken Rasen ) His name is Calum Dowse, & he is 17 years old. . Every year, as all you ex ATC guys will know, a competition for model making is held. It has 2 themes, one of them being a kit specified in the rules, but the cadets are allowed to create a diorama using this kit. The model chosen this year was the Airfix 1/72 SAR Sea King. Calums interpretation of the theme has resulted in a diorama that won both the wing, & regional finals. There is now a good chance that this diorama will being going down to the RAF museum in London, for permanent display. I think the workmanship that has gone into this model, & diorama makes it a worthy winner, & a model that I know I would have been proud to produce. 7. Evening! One more GB related RFI, had the camera out so took some snaps of this one too. It's been all but finished for around a month, except for the dorsal antenna which I couldn't find! A quick tidy of the bench and it turned up! Build thread http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=234921997&st=20&gopid=1133126entry1133126 Here's the pics: As always I enjoyed this kit, and nice to do a bit for H4H as well! Phil

  8. Finally finished this hanger queen, not my worst but definitley not my best. Not to hard to nail together and no where near as bad as some would have you believe. It looks ok sitting on the shelf keeping my GP Firefly company.

  10. Hi, Tasty looking project, then I saw the 34 Pound 50 on the box and I thought gods what next and then I realised it was a Hasegawa kit, so it could have quite easily been 50 Quid! I'll follow this build with interest as a SHAR and Harrier enthusiast. Colin on the Africa Station

  13. There might be a way round the undercarriage problem. Bit difficult to describe without illustration but, if you swapped the wheel bays round ( i e port bay under starboard wing & starboard bay under port wing,), you'd have an inward retracting, wider track undercarriage AND, sufficient space outboard for (say) 4 x 20mm cannons? The undercarriage would take up the same space as the existing Spitfire u/c but, in reverse ( if you get my drift)

  15. It's a new build. The chap who made it designed and built new moulds and jigs. The only difference is the adhesives and a solid spruce leading edge, as the original ply ones tended to get damaged. Lots of help from deHavilland. Original metal fittings where possible. The plan is to build more to order.

  18. Phew! That'll be fun. I'm sure you've got your plans already in hand but, if I may be so bold as to offer a suggestion, if I were to attempt such project, I'd look at combining (say) the larger tail surfaces & wings of a late mark Spitfire with the deeper fuselage /nose of the Tempest?. This intriguing aircraft would also presumably be a lot heavier than a Spitfire.I'd also be looking at a much sturdier ( and longer) wide track undercarriage ( a la Spiteful)?. That would get at least round the ground clearance problem with the prop. All the best Enzo. I look forward to seeing this Allan

  22. Hey Danni, this one looks wonderful!!! I agree with Belle and Andrew, and also have the same question about colours. I have had two or three Rare Planes 1/72 Fulmar Vacs but not feel so brave to get a knife and try one, so I found a Vista Injected One in Ebay and when it arrives I'll decide what to do. Thank you for the inspiration and for sharing the nice job you did with this one!!

  25. Looks very nice in that scheme Jordy. The nose shape looks pretty good as well. Have you done anything to improve the kit in that area, or is it standard? Chris.

  26. Quick update... Some module painting...first the engines - SG Black undercoat and Alclad Aluminium sprayed with a Flory wash on the cylinders Cabin seats sprayed RLM 02 to the seat frames with Olive Green cloth and a Flory wash. Alclad Aluminium under-frames Crew seats given light brown cushions on a RLM 02 frame and a Flory wash Finally cockpit painted RLM 02, decal for the IP, instruments and levers in black picked out with red. yellow, blue and silver. Again a Flory wash applied. Control yokes RLM 02 with leather cover at foot and buff finish to wheel. You can also see the extra masking to the ribbing in the cabin in RLM 02 in the last pic Should be glueing the cabin and remainder of the cockpit fittings over the weekend with a bit of luck. My Eduard mask set arrived, so we are good to go. Thanks for looking

  28. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who worries about things like that. I have semi-evil plans involving parts swapping between a B-25 and an A-10. Ever park one next to the other? Gives me a terrible case of the whiffs but there are, lets say, some logistical concerns involved.

  30. It has the chin radiator. However, that causes a problem. The Sabre is a much deeper engine than the Merlin and Griffon. Putting the Sabre thrust line at the same level as the Merlin thrust line would leave the radiator only an inch or so clear of the ground and the propellor tips striking the ground. So the Sabre is set higher on the fuselage. This means that the cockpit sits higher leading to a bubble canopy on a full depth fuselage. The Sabre is also much heavier than the Merlin, leading to CG problems. So the cockpit may be set further forward, with the fuel tank in the rear fuselage. The extreme power of the Sabre also means that the tail surfaces have to be bigger to counteract the torque swing. On the other hand, the lack of radiators in the wing mean that there is more room for fuel tanks and increased armament.

  33. Aaarg! Once seen, cannot be unseen. The Heldrake will no longer be scary and cool Thanks for the vote of confidence I think some of those are the ones that are in the first redesigned White Dwarf issue - there was a good conversion which set the cockpit back to where the turret would be, it gave quite a different feel. I like the one with props too! The side view of the doubled-up grey one makes me wonder what an Ork EE Lightning would be like - two engines vertically at the rear, a shock cone/'urty spike, and stubby wings... Cheers, Will

  34. I've done a bit more tonight - the tail turret has had its basic structure completed. First job was to remove and line the windows for the rear gunner: Next, using parts from the spares box including left over resin items, I've added the gunner's seat, console and gun sight: The large gap on top of the turret is where the rudder was. When the fuselage halves have been joined this will be remedied by adding a plastic card roof which will be blended in with filler. The framing will also be improved by adding further details when all the joins in this area have been made good. Now it's the part I've been dreading most... the bomb bay. Tom

  35. Hi Jon, As promised, here is a good image showing the under-wing louvred air vents located on either wing (outboard of the engines). These open when the engines are running on the ground, and close when in the air. The leading edge intake has a rotary shutter that is closed when on the ground, and opens when in the air.

  36. Sorry, yes, from Oct. 6th to Dec. 30th so expect to see the official GB and threads open in the near future. Hmm, Post-devolution Scottish Air Force, sure there are some possibilities there with not only Tornado GR.4 and Typhoon but also Sea King SAR and fisheries protection machines.

  39. Sweet. I love it!!! So I guess 666 is the Spitfire of the beast? What would R.J. Mitchell say if he saw this? Who knows (but I can picture R.J. rocking out at a Maiden concert if he grew up about 40 years later I suppose). Somebody now needs to do one in 1/24, complete with a sculpted Eddy in the cockpit striking his classic pose!
