  2. OK, as it was your first build I'll let you off the hook for not including Rose and Jack at the bows, pretending to fly. 😁 But next time . . . (I might be making a rod for my own back, here. 😁) But seriously, you have every right to be proud of this, it's a very good model. I've kept all of mine too, those I've done since coming back to the hobby. And no, I've never done an RMS Titanic, so I'll sit here and admire yours. Regards, Jeff.
  3. G'day Ian, we're all novices at the beginning, doing mods and additions I think is something that comes to us over time. As TBJ says - "Enjoy it, that's what counts." As for the colour scheme, there's been considerable discussion over it. My original build was OOB, including the colours. My second was a modification to her May 1941 appearance, as much as I could, and that included a different colour scheme. For that I based it on a diagram generously supplied by @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies which is endorsed by the HMS Hood Association I think. It has a dark grey anti-fouling below the waterline. If she ever had red I can't recall, and if she did I don't know when the grey was added. But even so I think it looks OK - ultimately it's your model, your choice. 🙂 I can post a photo of them both if you wish, for comparison. But I don't want to bamboozle you too much either. HTH and doesn't confuse. Regards, Jeff.

  5. Well - this was intended to be a short 'filler' between projects - having never built a 1/350 submarine before I did not realise how short. A short Sunday morning later we have ... I decided to mount them flush against a board like this and built a stand to display vertically as think presents them nicely as a 3d picture. I do have name plates coming from @Model Monkey which will get added once they arrive and are painted. \
  6. Hello Everyone, Here is yet another Royal Navy warship (I think I need to get some different warship kits built ). This one is another submarine, this time the HMS Astute. This kit is a 1/350 Hobby Boss effort and is my first example of that particular manufacturer's kit along with first use of photo etch parts. All the best, Rick
  7. Hello Everyone, Here is another addition to my Royal Navy warship collection, this time it's something that spends most of it's time beneath the waves. Trafalgar class submarine HMS Turbulent made by Airfix in 1/350 scale. All the best, Rick
  8. Some more small progress: This stand took far too long to make as it has to be positioned correctly with three new legs to touch the base of one of the funnels, and all three stand supports are slightly smaller than their plastic equivalent! This is where it will go with a mast added since last time so I can start to make the PE star-bridge: Finally the tops of the funnels made from Resin and a plastic part that is being replaced. With that priming and painting can start alongside the hull, then put down the wooden deck on the hull and start the main super structure. Simple. Or possibly not.
  9. Nice Airfix classic, but a pig of a kit. No doubt that you will transform this relic into a silk purse. ⚓👍
  10. I have the kit, I can pm sprue shots if you'd like, everything fits like a glove so far,
  11. Hello Everyone, Here is my build of the Revell 1/570 scale RMS Titanic. Be gentle with me, this was my first ever build after I returned to this hobby years ago after a very long break from when I was a kid. This kit is painted in Revell Enamel paints. I'm still really happy with the way this kit came out and am proud to display her in my model display cabinet in my office / library / man-cave. Anyway here are the photos. Have you ever built a model of the Titanic ? All the best, Rick
  12. Hello Everyone, This is my 2nd large scale warship build, the Airfix 1/350 scale HMS Daring D32, Daring class Royal Navy Type 45 Air Defence Destroyer. Some of you will know that I am building another one of this kit at the moment, this is not that kit as I'm still working on it and it will be decalled as HMS Dragon once complete. I really enjoyed building this kit and Airfix had definitely made improvements to the design of their ships with the way the upper hull components and lower hull join together. I still have the aircraft to build for this kit and will be doing so at the same time as HMS Dragon's aircraft so there will most likely be some more photos to add to the build when the aircraft are ready. This kit was hand-painted with Humbrol acrylic paints. Anyway here are the photos. Have you ever built this kit ? Look for my 2nd build of this kit as HMS Dragon as soon as I get her finished. All the best, Rick
  13. Hello Everyone, Here is my 1st large scale warship build. It is the Airfix 1/350 HMS Illustrious R06 Aircraft Carrier. This again is the 2nd kit of this particular ship that I built because the 1st had issues with the hull sides and Airfix very kindly sent me a full replacement kit to build as the hull sides had been glued to the 1st one and looked like a badly shaped piece of spaghetti i.e. curved and misshappen. I thoroughly enjoyed this build. She was handpainted with Humbrol paint. I've got additional aircraft to paint for this kit (from the 1st kit) to make the flight deck look a bit fuller. Anyway here are the photos. This is the flagship of my own personal battle fleet and I love this kit. Have you ever built this kit ? All the best, Rick
  14. Thanks Rob HMS Hollyhock was one of the few Flowers to be lost in the East. It's still surprising how many people can reference a family relationship to the crew's of these vessels. Rob
  15. Enjoy it, that's what counts. We now know the hull wasn't red!
  16. Ahoy there! I'll be showing more than a little interest. 👍
  17. I am just going with the instructions and colour scheme in the box, plus copying a bit from what others have done. Not really skilful enough to customise stuff yet - still see myself as a modelling novice
  18. G'day @IanJohnB, good luck with this. Are you going OOB which I think depicts the ship at about 1932 or altering the model? I think it's a good kit either way, am interested in what you do with it and will be following this. Regards, Jeff.
  19. Made a start on this. The two halves of the hull were well warped. Managed to eventually get them stuck together but required filler to fill a gap in the middle 🙂
  20. Info' always welcome 👍 The kit comes with a short mainmast - I figure the spare turret is just doubled-up on identical sprues. The smaller aft funnel is the same height as the large one - nice one, Trumpy 🙄
  21. G'day again, as they're both supplied it seems Trumpeter have catered for both of her configurations. I take it you know that as built she carried another twin 4.7-inch in 'X' position, which was replaced with a twin 4-inch after Norway to improve her AA fire power. At that time she also had her second funnel lowered and main mast reduced to improve the AA arcs of that mounting. Apologies if I'm repeating what you already know. Regards, Jeff.
  22. I do indeed. Curved turret, although there's a spare 'square' one on the sprues. Hang on, here we go... The lower pic is Ekimo, although the turret is clearer on the top pic...
  23. G'day @Andy H, do you have in the kit a twin gun mounting for 'X' position? Regards, Jeff.
  24. That diorama is super impressive, amazing attention to detail in the tools etc... The boat's great as well, nice to see a planked hull Cheers Steve
  25. Had a bit of a rest from this, but I've added the wheel and ladders. And the supports for the ships boats. And the midships gun.
