Dr_Fester
Hi,

Just wondering what everyone is intending to build for this GB?

My intended builds are as follows:-

Tamiya 1/12 ZX-RR in Nakano livery (a very underestimated rider in my view) built with a minimum of aftermarket stuff. Toying with the detail-up forks but speaking with Jen at SMW Telford I might try to replicate with foil and Alclad gold.

Tamiya 1/12 LCR Honda RC211V in Stoners livery, this one will get the FULL treatment !

Then if time permits I will have a stab at the 1/12 F1 Lotus 49B to add to my F1 collection.

I've not started any of them yet but that Kwaka has had a good sprue fondle and I might not hold out until January!

Cheers

Mine's a Tamiya 1/12 Yamaha YZR M1, in the Valencia special paint job, Colin Edwards.

Best looking GP paint job in years, and only just bested by the tricolore desmosedici in the last GP this year. (imo)

I'm hoping to get hold of a 6 wheeled Tyrrell
Mentalguru
Well- a Calsonic Skyline GT-R, and a Colin McRae Subaru tribute.

I don't know where The Doctor's ride is- if I could find it I might be tempted.

Haven't quite decided yet what to build, am thinking of a 3 car build from a classic US based Drag racing team. Will have a good look at the kits first to see how hard they are going to be to build. Otherwise Might make a NASCAR that's in the stash.

Here's 1 of the 3 cars
speedy
I've got a Tamiya Sierra Cosworth ready to go, but am waiting on a driver for it - once i find one.................
Caleb
I'd like to be in if you're willing to let a homologation model through - got a Tamiya FZR750 OW-01 ready to go and an XJ220 which will be built to GT spec as Mr Percy's 95 le mans car.
Smiffy
Well I'm up for it, if I can decide which one to do. shrug.gif

Jagermeister Capri

Colins L555 BAT

Vatannens Escort

Maybe a Silk cut Jag?

Decisions, decisions. hmmm.gif
Bennygman
This one hopefully...

The Revell one that is, not the hugely expensive resin/metal job.

Steve.

I'm still thinking about exactly what I'll be building... will be one or more of the following...

A 1/20 Lotus 99T (Ayrton Senna)

A 1/24 Tyrrell 007 (Jody Scheckter)

A 1/24 Chevy Monte Carlo #4 (Sterling Marlin) 1995 Daytona 500 winner

plus some other stuff thrown in yet... can't make my mind up yet!

Karl.

Will be having a bash at a 1/12 Suzuki RGV XR89

If I find the time I may also have a go at a car of some description, maybe a McLaren MP4/13, or I may decide to re-do the CLK DTM Original-Tiele, or possibly a CLK GTR. Dunno as yet, not decided .... shrug.gif

Been doing a Google search for pics of the real bike, for detail purposes, and isn't it marvelous how I can only come up with pics of the Tamiya kit? Are there any dedicated sites out there for previous years 'bikes such as the RGV? (You know, with the fairing off and such). Getting annoyed now ....

There's a real one, or two I think at Crescent Suzuki down in Bournemouth. I used to have a couple of pics, but not now.

Try doing searches on the rider and team rather than the bike itself.

Tried that, this is more awkward than trying to find decent pics of aircraft. biggrin.gif

Try calling Crescent Suzuki, see if they'll take some for you! And I'll keep my beady eyes open at the NEC next week.

There's a Tamiya 888 Ducati joined the stash recently, hope I have more luck finding references than you are right now Neil.

Grrrrrrr - oh for a 24th scale one of them!!!!!!!! (could build Tony Pond's Longleat lion cage car then!!)

Anyway, I shall be doing one of the late, great Mr. McRea's Focuses (Foci??). Either the 99 Monte debut car, or a later tarmac tearaway.

I think I have picked the wrong one! If I cannot find any usefull pics I dont think I will bother with it. Unfortunately I have been out of 'bikes for about 5 yrs now, and all my references are long gone. May just stick with a car or two. wink.gif

Weird isnt it? I assumed it would be rather straightforward to find stuff/pics etc, but so far have come up with naff-all on that RGV. Typed in various combinations of rider/team/manufacturer/RGV/XR89 etc etc etc into Google and Yahoo and stuff ............. and nothing!! All I keep getting are page after page of pics of the Tamiya kit itself. Most peculiar. I have had various problems trying to research aircraft in the past but so far this one beats the lot of them, hands down.

One option I did think of would be the 'Motocourse' books, but I do not have any of those (even more so from that era). None on Amazon UK either. So if anybody has a 'Motocourse' book from around the 1999(?) time frame ........................... shrug.gif

cool.gif
dswoofie
Neil,

I took a look to see if I could see anything, but nothing. As you say, there's hundreds of images of the Tamiya kit but none of any consequence of the real thing! weird or what!

I haven't got a Motocourse, but I will ask around and see. If I can find someone who's got one I'll get some pics for you.

I have got Autocourse going back to 83-84 though...

I'm trying to find somthing a bit different for this build, let you know what it is once I've found it.

Did a quick Google search for you and got these two lovely pics. It's of an early '89 model. Hope they're ok. I'll see if I can find anything from '99 for you to.

Cheers for looking Paul, I think that is the street legal bike. The XR89 is proving a touch elusive, though somebody may have a lead on a pic or two, will know in a few days time.

Yeah I would go with that if you can.

Sorry Neil this is the only result of the RGV '99 search with the covers off :-

I like the blue chain, in fact looking at pics of the ZX-RR I'm doing some shots have a green chain so that will take a little painting!

Cheers

Oooo....yes yes yes, that's the kind of thing I am after, thanks chaps!! biggrin.gif . From an aesthetic viewpoint, I do like the yellow rear shock spring (different spring rate depending on track I would say) looks nicer than a blue spring laugh.gif . I also see that on one of the views, the larger twin carbon discs are fitted which also looks 'better' than one large carbon + one smaller steel disc on the front end. I can see me moulding the larger kit disc now, to give it twin carbon front rotors .... rolleyes.gif , which will also mean re-mounting the left hand front caliper further out from the centre of the wheel hub. Getting carried away now aren't I ??

Hmmmmm .... I do keep toying with the idea of that photo-etch chain you know hmmm.gif .

Bugger I forgot about my bid on ebay for the 6 wheeler
But looks like Models for sale has one ..So I'll buy this tomorrow analintruder.gif

Not sure which one to go with hmmm.gif

Got this cheap from Hobby Craft, they had two in stock with damaged boxes marked at £34.99 and an extra 25% off in the Revell kit sale. Couldn't resist it biggrin.gif

Or... this little one, in the green. The box makes the decals look silver (chrome) but was disapointed to find they were white once the box was open sad.gif but i'll paint 'em chrome anyway...

Got chatting with Steve @ Hiroboy today and he persuaded me to part with more money, damn he's a good salesman tongue.gif . Should have the detail stuff required for the Honda RC211V in the post and ready for the GB start.

Well that's me sorted in the pics department biggrin.gif . One of the lads in my local club has emailed me nearly 40 (!!) pics of the Telefonica RGV in various stages of undress, just the kind of thing I am after. There are minor differences to the one I am building, but essentially it is pretty much the 'same' bike, I just need to note the odd change here and there. Here's a few:

Got no excuses now, best order me some photo etchy bits and bobs.

Okay, I seem to have decided what I'll be building
Zakspeed Jagermeister Gr.5 Capri.

I'll be using the old Tamiya kit......

........combined with Studio 27 decals , this resin bonnet.....

......and a Monogram IMSA Mustang.

The IMSA Mustang was basically a rebodied Zakspeed Capri, so I'm gonna combine the Chassis/engine etc from the Monogram kit and try and mate it to the Tamiya Capri body (the Tammy kit is just a basic curbside model).
Should be interestin'. wacko.gif

I haven't decided if I'm gonna remove all the body panels yet though. hmmm.gif

Whatd'ya think? blink.gif
