Hi all,
Decided to join the party, got the Airfix 1/48 Jag. I'll mostly be building this one...

Love XZ112 in its 54(F) Sqn Retirement Scheme.

Got all the usual goodies to go with it. Paragon Flaps, wheels and Burner cans sets. Flightpaths weapons Stores & Neomega's Cockpit set of course. Incidentally anyone know where i can get hold of a boarding ladder?

Got the Model Alliance 2005 Special Schemes Pt.1 decal sheet to dress it up.

Not got that far at the mo, just the cockpit and wheel well being worked on so far. Took a while to convert the display panel to a reasonable GR.3A standard, although nearly went blind in the process. hypnotised.gif
Still a bit of tweaking to do on the seat.

Must thank Mike for the wheel well, thumbsup.gif I'll be watching your build very closely! wicked.gif

Thats all for now folks.
Cheers

I think Paragon does a set of boarding ladders in PE...

As a matter of fact, I have also been wanting a set for my T2 build.

So Neil...they still available? whistle.gif biggrin.gif

Hi all, thought i'd give you a little update, not as far as i'd like to be on this one as i've been working on a Tomcat for a while, but enough of that.

Basically she's just about assembled now and waiting for the paint shop.
This kit is a crap fit to say the least, plenty of filler, sandpaper and elbow grease needed. I detailed the wheel/Airbrake bays with Evergreen, gave the whole fuselage a quick rub down with wet & Dry too get rid of that pebbley texture, and then rescribed the panel lines again. At this point i just could'nt help but add a bit of rivet detail to the wings, dont ask me why. shrug.gif

Just the undercarrage to concentrate on which i'm strangely looking forward too. analintruder.gif

have a looky for yer self...

Thats all for now. hopefully get this finished before the deadline.

Cheers

Agreed - what would we all have done without Neil's build?

Where would we all be without NEIL, especially when it comes to Jags & Tornados happy.gif

Looks like Rich has overtaken me... Nice work mate... now I can use your pics of the gear & air-brake bays to help with mine! laugh.gif

(Still reckon the intakes should have been resin wink.gif )

Back again. BTW, thanks Guys and Gals for all your kind comments. grouphug.gif

Finally got the undercarriage finished. Not as easy as i thought, but then again i am following Neils masterpiece bow.gif so it was never going to be that easy. Also got one of Neil's excellent boarding ladders (big thanks to Neil)

Mike, i had already filled, sanded, rescribed and attached the intakes before you had created yours. wall.gif I couldn't be arsed to take em off & start all over again.

Anyway heres a Pic of my progress so far;

Next up, a coat or 4 of paint. analintruder.gif

Well finally got a bit of painting done, although i must admit it didn't go entirely to plan. Firstly i gave it a shot of Tamiya matt Enamel Grey to act as the primer coat, which went down beautifully as most matt paints do when thinned properly.

After this i did a bit of pre shading.

Then i sprayed the bottom half with Xtracolour's X036 Dk Camo Grey. At this point i knew everything was going too well, now i know enamel paints are renowned for there slow drying time but even 3 days later it was still tacky to touch. rant.gif

I thought about stripping the bloody thing and switching to Aycrilics (something I'm still considering) but i suppose out of sheer lazyness i decided against it. Which in the end was a good thing because a couple of days later it dried out. Happy days again... guitar.gif

I then masked the bottom half and coated the top half with X4 Dk Sea Grey. Low & behold the paint was taking it time to dry, 4 days to be precise. At this point i realised it must have beeen the combination of Tamiya & XtraColour Enamels that was causing the Glacier Like drying time. So i won't be doing that again in a hurry.

So I'm at the stage now where i've got a bit of detail painting and touching up then its on with the decals.

Cheers

John.
T-Tango
Nice looking Jag you've got there Rich, well done mate.
Rich F
Right, finally got another update, my camera decided to go t*ts up on me, so had to splash out on a new one. raincloud.gif

Anyway got the the decals on, this is the Model Alliance Specail Edition sheet.

Then decided to use Phil's super Wash, must say very easy to use and looks the DB's. speak_cool.gif

You can see the the pitot tube didn't survive the decaling process, oh well, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. analintruder.gif Something else to fix.

Just the Matt coat to go on then i can start sticking the final bits too it...

Cheers

Can't wait....

gobsmacked.gif ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!!
Rich F
Well shes on her wheels now, not an easy task let me tell you. banghead.gif

I don't know if anybody else building the 1/48 Airfix Jag had any problems but i had to take the main gear off twice to position it correctly. Still the outer wheels would'nt touch the deck, confused.gif so in the end i cut the axles off, drilled a hole and threaded a peice of plastic rod through to act as a new axle. This did the job, I can now see why Neil made a jig to fit his undercarriage.

Still got a bit to do but the end is in sight, hopefully get her finished this w/end, fingers crossed.

Cheers

Cheers Gary, no I'm gonna reattach the original one, hopefully most of it should be hidden by a Pitot Cover as I'm in the process of making a Cover and some RBF flags as i cant seem to find any Brit ones. Now there a market if ever i saw one... hmmm.gif
