Make mine Jag no.2 complete for the Britmodeller Jaguar Group Build. Airfix 1/48 Jag built straight from the box and using kit decals .......... NOT!

Cheers

Are you two kidding me?? gobsmacked.gif

Lets see, I have wheel wells started getting scratched. Cockpit is primed!!

sandy
Airfix 1/48 jaguar , paragon weight wheels, paragon flaps/slats , paragon seat, pj productions pilot and some extradecals to finish it off. Paint was all extracrylics . Not the greatest of kits / builds but am reasonable happy to have finally finished one of the kits after several failed attempts !!!!

Some beauties already. I havent even received mine yet. Guess Ill bow out, unless the deadline goes on. What is it anyway?
Andrew
To Martin, Doc and Sandy,

Congratulations on your fine efforts; apologies for not saying so sooner. Thanks for your in-progress threads as well. It's great to see variety in the schemes chosen and it reminds me of the varied service that this aircraft has seen.

End of April? Good. Isnt that Jag with deployed chute excellent? Fecking excellent, even!
GrahamEM
2 Jag GR3a builds both Airfix 1/48 completed, up with the first done was 54(f) Squadron - XX119, OOB all weaponed up.
The second is in 41 Squadron - XZ103. 2005 display scheme, decals from Model Alliance. This aircraft in 2006 became converted to 6 Squadron livery as 41 Squ markings can still be seen vaguely on the side air intakes.
Changes made to a single UHF ariel opposed to twin (GR3) couldn't quite get that right, preshading worked better on the second model (mainly down to now having a compressor & proper airbrush.

I used two camera's for the pictures, my phone 3.2 megapixel and kodak digital 3.1 megapixel just to see what happened....well i found out the flash is much better on the kodak !
Hope they're not too bad.

That's a fine brace of Jags there Graham. Great work, quality is improving by leaps and bounds.

Well done Graham - Nicely pre shaded and 2 finished. thumbsup.gif

You have a couple of outstanding builds there Graham!
Very nicely done,

Graham,

Now those I really like - excellent work there!

Good looking models Graham... but... I think the camo grey (lower one) is far too light in shade (the flash doesn't help though) - on the real thing the difference between the dsg and camo grey is not that great and in some lighting conditions they are nearly identical. What paints did you use?

Cheers Damo, i used Tamiya XF-53 (match for humbrol 164) for the top and revell 374 (there or there abouts for humbrol 156) picture used for reference was this -
DamienB
Ah, the perils of relying on just one photo perhaps? That shot's been over-exposed or played with in post-processing - there's a distinct lack of contrast for a shot that's clearly been taken in bright sunshine. Your model of the 54 Sqn Jag does show a better lower grey than the 41 Sqn one though.

Here's one of the 41 machine that illustrates the grey in bright sunshine:

GrahamEM
yeah it's a very dirty grey i'll give it that.
AndyL
Finished...

Just need to re-angle the cockpit canopy...and that's all done for me.

Tim's Jaguar completed model.
1/48 Airfix almost straight from the box - which was the Jaguar at Fairford in 1989 (and I was there to see it).

And now she's going to adorn my desk - until the next project is completed.

Great model goodjob.gif

Oz I have a question. Do you have any Jaguar photo with four CBU-87s? I have seen BL755 or 1000lb boms in tandem but any CBU-87. Thanks.

Radek
Gary West
Well done Oz - don't forget to sneak the fuel dump pipe on as well. Small protruding pipe just above the drag chute cone, at the base of the tail.

Radek

Radek, I have to say I knew nothing about the Jaguar before I started this for the group build before Christmas. I was planning to build it using the kit supplied ordanace but understood that the BL755 cluster bombs were switched to CBU-87s, I sorced these from the Hasagawa weapons kit, I had found this picture, I think taken at the same time as the one you have posted, I honestly couldn't tell you if they are BL755s or CBU-87s! I do have the BL744s ready to go, so it won't take much to switch them over if they are wrong......

I know, I figured they were the shipping text?! maybe only transport them by land/sea!? I did wonder why you would have DO NOT FLY on them, again, easily removed if it will make it more correct. Totally open to suggestions here!

Ssshhhh......
Let's see if we can quietly slip this one into the group build before anyone notices.

Right, think I can consider this one done.
Not perfect by any means, but it'll do me.
1/72 Revell Jaguar. Mostly out of the box, except for an Aeroclub seat and a few Xtradecals roundels and stencils.

What did we learn from this build?
1.I know bugger all about modern aircraft.
2.Xtracrylix don't seem to like being sprayed on bare plastic
3.Revell decals can be a bit pants at times
4.Even when I want to, I can't build 'out of the box'
5.Blu-tac worms are brill'
6.I spend too much time researching and then forget to look at the sodding photos while building!
7.A fully detailed cockpit is not entirely necessary if it is painted black.
8.Spilling Klear on models and not noticing is a pain in the bum.
9.I like building modern British aircraft!
10.Britmodeller is full of helpful people who know a lot more than I do.

The stores are just white glued on, so if I've messed up the loadout it's not the end of the world.
C&C welcome.

One last thing, I didn't seem to have used as much filler as some Revell/Italeri builds I've seen here. Maybe It was from an earlier moulding batch?

OzH great job, desert dirty and worn nicely it's crackin' & LotusArenco very nice 1/72 jag that's so good it actually looks like a 1/48 goodjob.gif

Keep 'em coming this is the best part seeing what's flying in!
DamienB
LotusArenco - wash a bit of red over the cannon muzzles and that'd finish it off nicely. Don't think I ever saw a Jag with all the red coating worn off, certainly not with the rest of the paint job looking so good!

As the Jag GB ends in about 6 weeks, probably best to wait for the next one - especially as you didn't run a WiP thread.
hatchet
Oz, the CBU-87s were only carried as singles. Incidentally, Radeks picture is the first I've seen of a Desert Pink Jag carrying BL755s, but as 8 were dropped 'in anger' it figures there would be some pictures of it too. The picture you linked to seem to show a CBU-87.

The "do not fly" text is, I believe, only on inert, ground-handling, training rounds.

I think I mentioned the 'single-only' thing in my PM... unsure.gif

Mart, I have a question. Do you have some photo with 2sq Jaguar with 1000lb bombs? 2sq was recce squadron and I have not any similar photo in my collection.
1000lb bombs on the inner pylons were in tandem only I think.
