Not sure if these needs a story as I am taking one of the best known planes from WW2 and usin to represent one of the best know spacecraft from Sci-fi films.

The Millenium Lancaster, yes, that heap of junk.

I might work on a story but there is one already out there about gambling, smuggling and droids which will take some beating.

Anyway on with the build.

First pic is of Revell box and inspiration.

The blue and white putty is some mould making stuff I picked up, mix the two and quickly make your mould, okay for the odd bit so hopefully I can use it to copy some of the parts of the FM kit to go in the Lancaster.

Cheers,

Warren

This could end up looking very cool! biggrin.gif
Whats the plan in regards to mashing them together?
Madmonk
No plans to mash them together, the FM kit is too rare to do that!

The intention is to recast some parts of the original and use them on the Lancaster, things like the exhaust ports, the figures and possibly some of the panels. Looking through the parts on the FM kit it is obvious the amount of kit bashing done to build the original, there are at least 2 Hewland gearbox sections and several DFV engine parts before looking at tanks and planes!

I will remove the blades from the props and add the necessary bits to make them look like impulse/ion engines, I might try and recreate the interior to resemble the original with a round table and seating. I might even modify the bomb bay doors to be the access ramp.

Cheers,

Kewl idea.
You'll find bits from a Hurricane and BF109, Ferrari engine halves, Porsche gearbox, various Panzer stuff.
On the Big 5 foot Falcon, they actually used Tamiya Lancaster bits, too. biggrin.gif
Will keep an eye on this. popcorn.gif

I almost fell over with shock thinking you were going to mash up one of those FM kits.. Money to burn?

But greeblies all over the Lancaster? Could work.

Will she make point 5 past lightspeed though?

Enzo,

Sorry but I want to keep the shape of the Lancaster as true as possible so no grafting.

No money to burn, I have a wife, two kids and a dog that do that!!

There are plenty of small panels that I can copy to add to the Lanc.

Your Spitfire was great, so I am looking forward to seeing this finished, and hopefully we will have a picture or two of them together.

So, Warren, are you going to make a lot of special modifications yourself. wink.gif
Madmonk
Sorry I have not added anything for a few days but as with all things we enjoy, work and family life get in the way. This week it has been mainly work!

I have taken some moulds off the FM kit but not happy with them so I have dug out the rubber mould compound and hopefully if I can escape work will remould a few bits.

Mark, there will be some mods but I want to try and stay loyal to the Lancaster shape. I do have some concerns about using the guns in the vacuum of space particularly with the large openings in the glass work!!!

Anyone have a 1/72nd scale holographic chess set I can use for the interior!!

Back to work for now.

Warren
markmarples
for the chess set cut out some shapes from holgraphic confette! it flickers differnt coulours for diffent angles ive used it for HUD's before
Daniel
Warren,

How is it going, much progress?

Dan
Madmonk
In a word Dan, No!!

The last few days and evenings have been hijacked by work so all the good intentions have had to go by the way side.

I have managed to get a coat of primer and paint on the interior but that is all, grey paint not that interesting. I'm sat at the PC now, supposed to be working but thought I would check the postings as I had not been on since Sunday.

Hopefully I will get a work free evening tomorrow so I can do the mould making, pics will be provided.

After that there will be a couple of weeks break as we go on holiday, can't wait!

Cheers,

Warren

Work free night so the ML is back on the bench.

Will post some pics either later tonight or in the morning.
Madmonk
Well got some work done on ML yesterday evening.

Internal walls and equipment panels painted, still need to add some wires & pipes.

I then set about moulding some of the bits I want from the FM kit.

The mould was left over night but I think the silicone rubber may have gone off as I would have expected it to be solid this morning but it is still soft. I will now leave it till I am back off holiday an hope it has cure by then.

Will hopefully get some wire and pipes in cockpit this evening.

As I have said before I want to keep it as true to the original shape of the Lanc as possible but will add some small additional details from the FM kit or scratch built. the radio station will be lost as it becomes the seating area and "chess" table.

Thanks for looking.

Russ,

Noticed it before the Mrs so live to carry on moulding & modelling...............................for now!!!!!!
Madmonk
The Rubber appears to be curing slowly so by the time I'm back from Italy it should be okay.

Not much done on the ML, the cockpit is only a single seat pilot layout so I have started to modify it to seat two.

I also made new moulds for the figures fron the FM kit and did a set of trial casts using green filler, Han needs another casting but the others look okay, if just a little air sick!!

First half of mould

Air sick figures!

This will be the last post for a couple of weeks.

Ciao,

I guess Yoda would sing songs like Les Dawson played the piano! Or as Eric Morcombe would have said "All the right words but not necessarily in the right order!"

Will definately enjoy it and hopefully talk the family in a trip to Maranello while we are there, only 45 mins by car, can we go, pleassssssssssssssssssssssssssse!!
markmarples
looks good mate a bit sunnyer than donny in Italy mate, have fun
Madmonk
Well the holiday is now a dim and distant memory, at least till the credit card bill arrives!!

The rubber mould was well and truly cured by the time I got back, just needs a bit of tidying up round edges plus some resin for casting.

The spare room looks like a jumble sale at the moment as it is being used for all the laundry after the hols, but managed to get enough space cleared to sit at the desk.

The cockpit is movng on, converted it to a two seater so that Chewie and Han can sit together and played around with the navigators area as well.

The Yoda tribute band is looking more colourful, I am having problems with Han as he seems to have a weak right leg, it keeps snapping everytime I try and clean it up, currently on my 4th casting!

The figures are okay for recasts plus you probably wont be able to see Obi and Luke once it is all together.

Next task will ne to fill in some of the windows as there are too many on the Lanc for it to be a smugglers ship!

Cheers,

Warren
Obi-Jiff Kenobi

Little bit more done over the last couple of nights.

Cockpit added to one half of main body.

Windows covered with plastic strip on inside then filled with Yoda putty!

Other little bits and pieces done but not worth showing yet.

Nothing will get done tonight as I am taking some customers to watch 11 overly paid prima donnas kick an inflated pigs bladder about against some Bulgarians but will be back on it Saturday evening.

Sorry there has been no update for a few days but sometimes things happen to just knock you for six.

On Tuesday morning one of our estimators didn't turn in for work, he always phones in if he is off, for what ever reason. After leaving a couple of messages on his mobile I took a call from his father about 12.00 to say he had been killed in a car accident just before 8.00am that morning. I just didn't know what to say. The next job I had to do was the most difficult I have ever done, walking round the office to let people know what had happened to Craig. At 28 he had a great future in front of him both in his personnal and work life and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

I know this is not necessarily the place for this but having just put his personnal things in a box to give to his parents I just wanted to put something somewhere!

Sometimes life can be cruel!

Thanks for listening.
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
That must have been a terrible shock for all concerned. My sympathies go out to all his family and friends.

Madmonk
Guys,

Thanks for the words, much appreciated.

Not much been done since on the ML but did get round to casting the bits from the Fine Moulds kit.

As there are only a few to do I used resin plaster as I had a box in the cupboard. The first lot were no good as I had the mix too thick and had too many bubbles.

The second set were much better and I'm pleased with the mold and the castings taken from it.

I need a second set which are curing while I am at work.

Hopefully get some more time this evening.

Cheers,

Warren
