That Lego Star Wars stuff is fantastic! I can recommend the Revell easyKits as well, but they can be somewhat pricey. Mind you so can Lego.

Lego's always been expensive, but worth it. The only thing I don't like about modern lego is that most of it is designed with one purpose in mind. To build the model on the front of the box. When I played with lego, most of it was generic blocks, and as such you used to have to use your imagination much more, and make the shapes yourself. It was also much more flexible in what you could build as a result.

Sorry Wayne, Didn't mean to derail your thread this early laugh.gif blush.gif

your having a laugh, i could talk about and play with lego all day! analintruder.gif

I agree about the imagination as well. i once made nine red arrows out of 18 2x8, 18 2x8, 36 2x2 and 18 clear 2x2. they were not all red as i didnt have enough, and they looked more like A10's but they stayed made for years and flew all over the world.

Now, did anyone see my Jaguar, i need to fubar the flaps.
Gary West
Hey Wayne - just to make you feel good about building a Nigerian Jag, did you know that the Nigerians still owe BAe £19 million! Written off as a bad debt I'd say

Good luck mate!!!! Cannot wait for the photos to come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is only my second kit that i have kit bashed and the first one still isnt finished after 6 months.
I am begining to think that this is beond my abilities.
I have had these Paragon flaps for a while now, and by all accounts they are very good. I think that although i have followed the instructions to the letter, i must have done something wrong. First of all I cut the flaps off of the top wing at the red lines, i am pretty sure that i did not cut too much off here.

Then on the lower stbd wing I cut along these red lines, again to the instructions, and again i dont think i cut too much off.

Here is the first problem, the outer flaps dont seem to fill the space i just cut out.

And secondly the two halves of the wing dont seem to match up, so that the gap between the two flaps are different. Do i have to fill and sand a best fit for this area or have i done something wrong?

I have only cut one lower wing at the moment as i dont want to mess up both. And i have a spare wing if it is knackered, is there a simple solution?

Just found this picture, why are the flaps not drooped?

Not sure wayne but, I remember reading where Spitfire and Hurricane pilots could be fined £5 for leaving their flaps down. The Commanding Officers said it 'spoilt' the look of a line of a line up of fighters.

maybe the same, it would spoil the lines?

Dont worry, you have done nothing wrong. The panel lines etc do not line up on the upper and lower kit wing panel lines. You will have to do a bit of filling/sanding on that bit.

They are all like that, Guv .... smile.gif

But i could be wrong but i thought that the flaps needed power or they would droop. shrug.gif

I think the Jag's flaps are screw-jack operated rather than hydraulic. So there would be no bleed off of hydraulic pressure to allow them to droop. They would be up or down and stay that way.
palacefan
as im under a bit of time pressure, i wish i had known that before i cut the flaps doh.gif
But it will still look a bit more interesting now i guess.

Adds a little inetrest and variety Wayne!
i still build some of my Spits and Hurricanes with dropped flaps

Thanks Gary.
I think I have come up with a way forward now, whether it is correct is another thing.
I have used some plastic card to make one triangular shaped panel between the flaps

And some on the underside, both need trimming and filling etc but i hope this works.

Nice save there Wayne. Think you've managed to pull that one out of the bag goodjob.gif Glad I read your post mate......... I was about to leap in and do exactly the same as you. Well that's Lesson no.1 about the Airfix Jag learned........... don't assume any of the panel lines actually do line up. I'm sure we're about to discover plenty more in the next few months wall.gif

It is a difficult work. It is not much info about Nigerian Jags :-((

looks like a plan Wayne....
palacefan
I thought i would do a bit more as i was bumped onto page two.
With alot of sanding i have got the wings where i want them, just some rescribing to do.

After a bit of advise from other threads, i cut the bottom of the intake ready for a platic card base.

Some tabs where added to the flat base of the fusalage for ease of alignment.

The side doors were carved out a little and plastic card doors added.

Its all a bit rough around the edges at the moment but i am confident that it should all work quite well when painted.
entlim
chillpill.gif it'll be fine......
Mike
Nice one Wayne wink.gif
Loki
Great stuff. Looks like you're going to be spending alot of time detailing this one. She looks great so far.
Tell me, why are you carving out the intake doors? I don't profess to know much about Jaguars....yet...but I do love them so.

You are clearly opening the gear doors to their most . Is this going to be a Jag in take off?

Nice one mate.

Cheers, its getting there.
I am trying to show the doors closed with engine shut off. I carved a bit of the doors away so that i could put plasticard into the recess and they sit flush. This way i dont have to re scribe the hinges.

I just read a Jaguar build report from Scale Aircraft Modelling, June 2003, by Tony O'Toole.
There's a comment in there that parking a Jag with flaps drooped was an offence carrying a punishment of buying drinks in the mess all night!
Probable reason why they always seem to be parked in clean configuration.

Hoping to join in this fun soon with a 1/48 Jag of my own.

It isn't totally out of the question to have an aircraft parked with the flaps down. It could be parked outside a hanger undergoing maintenance or even be on the line about to have a "snag" fixed...... hydraulic leak for instance. I'm sure the riggers on here could suggest a few more. Besides the Jag does have a particularly sexy set of flaps doesn't it? wicked.gif
Phil @ Flory Models
That's it I'm jealous now dry.gif All these Jags, what have I got..A bloody 1/32 scale Tomcat with more resin then the real thing deadhorse.gif

Cutting the flaps is a bit of a lottery, because of the dodgy panel lines on the kit parts. IIRC, you should use the panel lines on the bottom of the wing to get the correct widths of the cut-outs. If course, I only found this out after I'd cut mine out using the top lines doh.gif

palacefan
I am still going......slowly. Latest progress.
I have made a back to the cockpit to hid the join, not too accurate but it is close enough considering most of it is behind the seat.
The Nigerian ones looked a tiny bit different inside, honest whistle.gif wink.gif .
This is number 1 project now so i sould make some faster progress.
Also got those bits of F in tin on the glass, i am starting to hate etched metal.

As they never paid for these Jags, did they have British/US/western weapons? from them
Could i put a Soviet weapons load on this do you think, as they usually bought russian weapons and aircraft shrug.gif

The trouble is Ed that that picture was pre delivery and Sepecat/Bae thought they were going to get paid at that time.

Would it be possible for the Jag to carry Russian weapons?

Good to see you back in the saddle Wayne.

From references I read, the Jags sat and deteriated after the payment issue. The Jags would have been supplied with the same weapons capabilities as all the other export Jags, but I guess if the NAF had sent them away to Israel etc, they could have been adapted.
palacefan
Thanks for that Gary, i think i will put some Russian weapons on it just so it is a little different.
After all, not alot is known about these Nigerian Jags so who can say it is wrong.
Well here is where i have got to so far, almost ready for paint.

Here you go then Gary, painted apart from the black bits, then the decals that you kindly donated next.

I have just noticed that the guns have the rusty colourin a curve and i have painted them square, so i have to touch that up.

Im running out of time but i think i can get it finished in time.

Wow, looking good Wayne speak_cool.gif Looks like you've done a good job of a complicated scheme. Keep going chap, nearly there!
