Hey guys. first let me say sorry if these have been asked and answered. Searching for revell typhoon in this section brings up a mine field of results and cant seem to narrow it down (most likely my words)
Im mostly a WW2 bird builder so this modern day jet stuff is knocking me for six, so be gentle with me lol.

Now onto my questions.
Kit would be a 1/48 Revell Typhoon

1- Seat - Cockpit decals dont match the instructions including the ones on revells website, cockpit ones im not bothered about, but the 2 seat ones are annoying me.

2- Now from a million and one searchs ive figured out the type of loadout - 2 tanks, 4 amraam, 4 asraam but only 2 supplied - How do i scratchbuild the required parts to make it look correct and if possible pictures of said items.

3- The kit decals for 3sqn do i need to put the Pirate on it? and would this be correct for aircraft with the loadout and supplied decals.

Im not really looking to buy any aftermarket bits, but to put my effort into making the best of what ive got around and making the parts. This really is strange for me, as WW2 birds are heck of alot more simple in loadouts and decal options, this Typhoon is mind boggling, so many varients and loadouts and what not.

Again sorry for the questions that probably have been asked before.

Any info on those questions would be appreciated, im at the stage where its all ready to go together and would be handy to work out what i need to do, like drilling the holes for the Pirate or not before i join the halves together.

Kev,

To answer your questions :-

  1. The ejector seat decals are numbered 180 in the (bottom right of the) Common area of the sheet
  2. When I made my F.2 in the QRA fit with 4 ASRAAM I made the second pair of ASRAAM from sprue of an appropriate diameter. These were cut to length then chucked in a slow speed drill and the nose and tail profiles sanded to shape. I cut some fins from 10 thou plastic card gave them an aerofoil shape with wet 'n dry paper. I made the inner ASRAAM launch rails from laminated 20 thou plastic card cut and sanded to shape using the kit outer rails as a pattern. NOTE The inner rails do not have the rear chaff dispensers of the outer rails so are shorter. Pics of my efforts here.
  3. I believe that ZJ918 is still in F.2 configuration so no PIRATE.

HTH,

Awsome Ian thats exactly what i needed, Seat decals finally i can get them sorted along with the others, although after hours of searching ZJ918 appears to have a PIRATE fitted in most pics on Airliners.net 09 is the most recent i can find, so maybe shes been refitted. So for the inner rails pretty much copy the outer ones without the silly chaff thingies lol (you can tell i dont do modern planes much lol) or is it just the rail itself (getting myself confused now)

Kev,

Yup ZJ918 is now an FGR.4.

You need to make an ASRAAM rail for the inner ASRAAM pylon as the kit does not have an ASRAAM rail on this pylon. The pic I linked to above :-

shows the shorter scratchbuilt rail(s) fitted to the inner pylon(s). The outer kit supplied ASRAAM pylons and rails with chaff dispensers are the top most pylons in the pic and the kit pylon(s) with the scratchbuilt shorter (no chaff dispenser) ASRAAM rail(s) are below.

I hope that this is now clear.

Yup thats superb i forgot to check the link before hand lol, ill get onto it, got some old rails from a harrier ill butcher and shape into the correct ones for the Typhoon. Again thanks Ian much appreciated ill now fit her with the Pirate.

The inner rails for the Tiffie are quite a different shape than the rest of 'em... here's a pic of the 1:32 scale ones from Two Mikes Resin (1:48 is also available).

Pay attention at the back!!!! The discussion is about the inner ASRAAM pylons and rails (Stations 2 & 8) not the inner pylons ( Stations 4 & 6). Nice gratuitous product placement though winkgrin.gif
