I got home last night & found the housing exec had removed the concrete rendering on the front of my appartment, saying it's unsafe.
The first I'd heard of it!
They're back today & useing the Kangol to hammer the rendering off.The noise is scareing Daisy silly! She's hiding behind the laundry tree in the hall at the moment.
If I was aware of the work, she'd be in the cattery for the duration but I was'nt aware.
So I've phoned the housing & gave off to them!

That's a bit much, not telling you first. What if you worked nights, or had people round?

Hope Daisy is okay when the noise stops

I agree with the others but i also know what these places are like. Good luck.

Yes, you should have had a letter telling you about the proposed work and when it was due to commence.

I know Daisy is scared but there could be several tons of render on there depending on the size of the property, and you'd be even more up set if it fell off in big chunks and injured you or Daisy. if its emergency works to make safe then they don't need to give notice, and bearing in mind that we have had some very cold weather lately it's possible that frost damage could push the render off making it unsafe. Ideally a letter should have been dropped off, even on the day of the works to explain (good practice but not essential).

Not saying the way things were done was right, just trying to give a balanced view.

Cheers

that's not nice sad.gif

She may well get over it, and if Merv will forgive me sticking my oar in, the point is there was no warning that this was going to take place.
Merv could have taken some action to prevent Daisy being upset. She may only be a cat, but she is alone with a lot of noise and confusion with no where to get away from it. Also the drilling could be making noises at a pitch that is very uncomfortable for a cat.

I would be miffed if it happened to Smudge and me.

it is a matter of courtesy that a letter be sent giving due notice. Which I believe is essential.

Go talk to a vet, they'll educate and inform you on how cats (and dogs) hearing and frequency range is far more sensitive than humans and how stressed out animals can get with regard to loud noises.

Thanks peep's,
It cant be that much of emergency when the Cleark of Works mentioned it to me month's ago that the rendering was loose but did'nt mention a repair or anything. They did replace my windowledge which I'd reported.

I know all about that Jonathan, thats why I bought a high frequency cat repellant for the garden. Saves the cats killing the song birds.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a cat hater, I just couldn't eat a full one. tease.gif

Depending on the type of landlord it may be worth writing a letter of complaint as it does sound as if the repair has been longstanding so a letter of notice would be due to you, if nothing else it may mean that next time works are needed you may get some sort of warning. A recognised social landlord (housing association, council or ALMO) will have a complaints procedure which should at least warrant an explaination and apology of some kind.
I normally work on the other side of the counter but understand that it can be really annoying when someone turns up out of the blue and starts pulling your home to pieces, especially if its noisy work such as that going on at your home...I kind of guess thats the point really, someone else may own the bricks and mortar but it is your home

They don't get the chance in my garden now Graham.

Apparently, if cats had their tails docked, it stops them from chasing birds.

This is a supprise!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good evening everyone and thank you.
Had I known I was to be nominated, I would have prepared a speech. so I'll keep it brief so that you can all carry on enjoying yourselves.

Firstly, whilst I am overjoyed to have won a "first", I feel there many more deserving of the accolades so kindly and generously bestowedon me this evening.
I won't bore you all with names, but I'm sure you will see them later when they come up here on stage to recieve their awards.

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank my agent, my manager, my colleagues, my darling Wife for her continued support. My friends and family, for their loyalty and encouragement. My script writers. The Postman, the window cleaner and my sponsors, Tru-Shot Catapults.
And finally, thanks to my neighbour, whose scabby cat provides me with the enthusiasm to continue, and without which, I would not be here tonight on such an auspicious occasion.

Thank you one and all.
Hopefully see you all again next year.

Don't you think this is all getting out of hand now?

Can we stop with the threats please?

Can we all just get along?
Mike
Whilst I don't think Kevin meant to threaten Chris, but the inconsiderates that attacked Merv's dwelling without warning, I think it's about time we stopped the cat lover/hater argument, even though I know Chris doesn't mean it... he's patted my cats on numerous occasions, and would never hurt one in real life.

Ok.. back on topic. Poor Daisy, but she will get over it. If cowering in terror was bad for cats long term, both of mine would be nervous wrecks by now... Piglet's scared of his own shadow!
