Chris Hannover - Germany
Hi all,

i decided to join the GB here! analintruder.gif Got the little kit yesterday and thought i should start it right away for a change. The kit looks very nice and currently i´m working on the engine. The first pics will follow tonight.
There are two schemes i like most and i have to decide which one i will do at the end. Stay tuned....

Cheers,
Chris

It's just fine matey... you're in, it's just Dylan's the "host" for the GB, so he'll probably want to pop in & smile at you wink.gif

Ar'noon!

Just got up.. Cheeky bugger! Been up since 6 this morning.. sleep_1.gif

Anyway Chris. Welcome on board. Am familiar with your work from LSP, and am glad you can join us!

Not sure what Bob von Crumbs will say about another Pfalz in the build, but as I think they're brilliant, the more the merrier.

Do post some pics up when you can.

All the best,

Nick
Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks Dylan & Mike smile.gif

I´m just on the way to install some ignition wires to the engine. Pics will follow tonight.
Thanks for the welcome!!

Cheers,
Chris

Here are the promised pics of the engine. Please let me know what you think.

Here is a small update. I fited the engine into the bearer together with the ammo boxes and all into the fuselage. It took some work to get it fit perfectly and some rips had to be overworked, but all in all i´m very pleased with the result. Now it´s not far to the paintwork. wink.gif
To see how small these WW1 birds were, i put a figure next to the plane. Hope you like it and as always, comments are most welcome!

Cheers,
Chris

Hey Chris, nice work! bow.gif

I've followed your work on LSP so it's nice to see you here as well. (I'm RookieLSP over there)

I've never been much of a WWI guy myself but this seems like a nice kit. Maybe when you finish yours I can get over my fear of rigging.... blink.gif
Chris Hannover - Germany
Hi David,

great to have some LSP´ers here too. Thanks for the kind words! smile.gif
WW1 subjects are not my first choice, but it is great to make a change from time to time.
Thanks for your post!

Cheers,
Chris
Repainted
Nice Chris
I´ve follow your work on LSP, and if you can do the same work with this as you did on the He 162, it will be another one for the book of fame. Keep it coming.

It is because that are the only two D.III´s.... laugh.gif biggrin.gif tongue.gif But i think i´ll loose....
The figure was painted by my good friend Brian Cauchi from Malta. It is an UltraCast (Canada) figure in 1:32 and it is a German fighter pilot who is standing in front of my 109 K4 actually smile.gif It fits perfectly, i love this figure, but i can´t paint figures, so i asked Brian to do that for me. I´ll soon get some more figures from him... analintruder.gif

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,
I don't think you will loose. You are a far better modeler than I.

My enjoyment will be sharing as much info as possible and in the process, enjoy building what I think is one of the best looking fighter aircraft ever built.
All the best.
Bob

Nice start Chris, love the ignition wires.
Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks Bob & Pete! smile.gif

Bob, we´ll see at the end... analintruder.gif

Well, here is the next update, but not much as you can see.
One of the barrels of the MG´s was broken off, so i had to replace them. I used some barrels from a Hasegawa 109 kit from the spare box.

Some of the paintwork has started. I set some parts in primer, used was here the Tamiya Surface Primer L from a can. Works very well!

That´s it by now. Next i have to get some cockpit parts fit, then the "wooden" fun will start, at least i hope it is fun... blink.gif happy.gif

Cheers mates,
Chris

Already looking great at this early stage of the build.

This reminds me of a Biker build off i saw on sky the other day, and one of the bikes broke down on the ride to the show.
Indian Larry (the other builder) helped to get this other bike fixed, and when asked if he would mind if he lost the comp now that he had helped the opposition he said
"there is no competition here, we are all on this sinking ship so why not all bail together"
KiwiSteve
Great looking work so far, love the pilot , you know the way this WWI GB is going you may have a few converts by the end of it laugh.gif
Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks a lot mates for all the kind words!
I made some more progress the last days, even though my time is very limited at the moment for some personal things...

However, here are the pics. I tryed to paint wooden surfaces the first time. What do you think?

The basic for the wood was painted with RLM 79 (sandbrown) and lightened up with Zink Cromatic Yellow and white. All was covered with FUTURE to protect the paint.
Here is the stuff i used for the wood. I thought i had to use the brush cleaner, but the effect was already ok for me without it.

The wood was painted by burned sienna oil paint.

Just a question, should i cover the oilpaint with flat varnish after it is dry, or does the oilpaint dry flat in the end?
Please let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Chris
David_in_Fremont
Hi Chris,

I am by no means a WWI expert, but exposed wood would certainly have a varnish to protect it from the elements. Most varnishes used on wood are glossy by default, so I'd see how it looks when dry then maybe go over it with a semi-gloss. I think a flat coat would make it look less like wood and more like brown.

One man's humble opinion..... hmmm.gif

Your results, as always, are looking great!
Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks David! smile.gif

I have to agree with you, a semi gloss varnish should work best.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
Next time you do wood with oils, mix in some of this stuff.
It thins the paint and helps it to dry quicker. I got me a bottle the other day and it's all GOOD!
Cheers.
Bob

Chris Hannover - Germany
Well, after some time, i managed to go on with the Pfalz.

Engine is painted.

Engine bearer and cockpit floor

another angle

Ready to install

instrument

in place

another angle

testfit of the fuselage, without engine and cockpit floor

i also drilled in some holes for the steering cables

Next step is, to glue the fuselage together and add the lower wing. After this is done, i still have to wait for some paints i have in order.
Thats all for today.

Cheers,
Chris
Col.
That looks bloody good Chris! Very realistic.
Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks much Col. smile.gif
There is so much space left for detailing, unfortunately you won´t see it all at the end, so i left it... biggrin.gif
Erwin
Hi Chris,

Lovely cockpit and engine.

Keep up the good work. But be sure to have enough time left to build something in the BoB GB that I'm going to host. wink.gif
Chris Hannover - Germany
Ah, Erwin is still alive! Nice to hear from you mate! smile.gif
Sounds great to me, hope the Eduard Emil is out then.... *fingers crossed!

Thanks & Cheers,

Hey Chris,

Was wondering where you had been!

Nice work so far.

What's all that gunk you've used to mask the engine and cockpit with?

Cheers,

Nick

Thanks Nick,

thats a masking fluid like Revell Color Stop.

Looks nice Chris. As I watch all this, I wonder how much WILL be seen. Losing your great work deep inside would be a shame.
This looks brilliant, or to borrow Mr. Buckles' term: "It's the gonads!" Sehr gut!
Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks David! smile.gif
Unfortunately there won´t bee seen much of the engine and cockpit...

The paintjob is done by now, will soon post more pics.

Cheers,
Chris

And on goes the story of the little wooden fella...
The paint is on. Next step is to cover the complete bird with FUTURE and attach the decals.

Was it getting a bit AMS'ish?

Know what you mean. The amount of work I'm having to do on this Fokker I'm building, and with all the mental effort it requires, I'm pushing it to make the deadline.

Sorry to hear that me old Bobby. I do look forward to seeing it soon though..

Update time... Now its time to get things cooked!!
I´m glad to present you my 90% done Pfalz. All i have to do now, is to wait for some parts which were painted with oils. That takes so fu***** long to dry! angry.gif But then i can attach the upper wing, add some wires between both wings and then it´s done wink.gif

Here are the pics. As always i´m open for some constructive comments or hints.

next pics...

The wash was done using the great ProModeller wash Dark. Thanks a lot for this Phil!! smile.gif

last four...

Hope you like it. Please let me know what you think.

Cheers mates,
