Today's word is:

Zebedee
pigsty
The little bouncy bloke with the moustache from The Magic Roundabout - dispenser of calm and wisdom, and bedtime monitor par excellence. Apparently able to hypnotise Florence in an instant, judging by the way her hand moved every time she got talking to him. Not in any way drug-related, any of this, dear me no, no, not at all ... man ...

The Zebedee List is a comprehensive list of secondhand balloons and other items for sale for balloonists. It is published monthly and can be obtained either in paper format or here on its web site. http://www.zebedeelist.co.uk/

In case you ever wanted a balloon!

or: Zebedee (zibhdi, "the gift of God"; Zebadiah) is a name used in several contexts:

In the Bible, Zebedee was a Hebrew fisherman, the husband of Salome, and the father of James and John, two of the Apostles of Jesus
Zebedee is a character in the BBC children's programme The Magic Roundabout.
Zebedee is a character from 1989 children's television series TUGS.
Zebedee is also the name of a Multi-User Dungeon game
Zebedee is a nickname given to a 4-shot of coffee, so called for its powerfully energising effect, making one act like the character Zebedee from The Magic Roundabout. The character has a huge spring instead of legs, and hence bounced around.
Zebedee is also a simple program to establish an encrypted, compressed “tunnel” for TCP/IP or UDP data transfer between two systems.
New Zebedee is the name of a fictional town which appears in children's works by John Bellairs and Brad Strickland.
Zebedee is also the name of a UK drum and bass DJ and producer.
Zebedee is also the name of a scientific instrument manufacturer.
Zebedee Soanes is a continuity announcer on BBC Radio 4.
Zeberdee is also the name of a cocaine addict in the movie The Football Factory nicknamed after the Magic Roundabout character.
Zebedee is also the name of a new zealand based drum and bass producer

Holy Zeberdee batman!

It's a perfectly normal Hebrew name! But there is a journalist whose first name is Hephzibah - another normal Hebrew name, I suppose, but really ...

If you want daft newsreaders' names, how about Fenella Fudge on Radio 2? She's on sabbatical from Hogwarts, I believe.

I've got that beat. Heard a program on the radio a while ago where they were discussing the stupid names some parents give their kids.

Apparently, a Mr & Mrs Carte had named their newborn son............

Orson.

I kid you not. Poor kid rofl.gif

Nothing wrong with that. I always planned to name my first-born son Orson, as my last name is Groom.

QUOTE
any of several species of fishes constituting the family Kuhliidae (order Perciformes). Various members of the genus Kuhlia inhabit marine or fresh waters in the Indo-Pacific region, whereas representatives of the other two genera are restricted to freshwater or brackish habitats of Australia. Superficially the aholeholes resemble the freshwater sunfishes (family Centrarchidae). The Hawaiian aholehole (Kuhlia sandvicensis) is restricted to coastal waters throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Its maximum length is about 30 cm (12 inches). Some species in the family reach lengths of 45 cm (18 inches).

If shortened to just ahole then can be used to describe most politicians! evil_laugh.gif

Good grief, I go away for a day or two and the whole world goes to hell in a handbasket! What are you lot going to do when I have a whole week off soon?

Okay Naka-san, I demand that you tell us what Tobby means, or it's the cooler for you!

As for today's word, it'll have to be something that couldn't possibly have any rude connotations. How about:

cockchafer
pigsty
A large, heavily-armoured brown beetle, readily identified by its feathery antennae (larger on the male). Appears in Southern Britain in May and June, often migrating northward from continental Europe, and announces its presence by flinging itself noisily at your windows at night in an apparent attempt to mate with your table-lamps.

Although I've not heard one this year, so I'm a little concerned that they may be in a spot of bother.
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
We've not seen any either, though we keep getting these tiny bright green things that are probably highly dangerous to plants or something.
pigsty
I have seen a couple, although they weren't looking very chipper. Just not heard them bumping stupidly against the glass, which is as much the sound of spring as the cuckoo. Ah well, these things come and go.

Those shiny green things are probably just harmless shield bugs or something. The ones you want to watch for are the bright red ones - lily beetles. For some reason they only appear while they're having it off, so they are quite easy to spot...
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
Reminds me of my partner telling me about looking out into her garden, where there used to be a pond, at night and seeing lots of sets of 4 eyes, 1 pair above the other, looking back at her. Turns out it was several pairs of frogs or toads mating.
bentwaters81tfw
cockchafer

Also known as a 'billywitch'

Saw 2 a couple of weeks back, and we normally get hundreds of the blighters.

I'm avoiding Mike's wrath by not commenting on variations on the theme! rolleyes.gif

Julien
The cockchafer (colloquially called may bug, billy witch, or spang beetle, particularly in East Anglia) is a European beetle of the genus Melolontha, in the family Scarabaeidae.

Once abundant throughout Europe and a major pest in the periodical years of "mass flight", it had been nearly eradicated in the middle of the 20th century through extensive use of pesticides and has even been locally exterminated in many regions. However, since a change in pest control beginning in the 1980s, its numbers have started to grow again. As they don't tolerate pollution well, their presence is usually a marker of low pollution levels.

I dont know about Frank but I have seena few cockchafers in Ipswich on a Friday night analintruder.gif
