July 28th of this year is the 100th Anniversary of Frank and Harold Barnwell making the first successful powered flight in Scotland. Both brothers went on to careers in the aircraft industry, although Harold was killed flying the Vickers FB26 prototype in 1917.
Frank became chief designer at the Bristol Aeroplane Company and was responsible for many of their most iconic aircraft, from the F2B to the Blenhiem. He was also killed in a crash, just before the outbreak of the Second World War. All three of his sons joined the RAF and all were killed in the war.
How about a Bristol/Vickers GB to commemorate these 2 remarkable men on the centenary of their pioneering flight?
