For this, My first Britmodeller Group Build I'll be building the 1:72 Airfix Dornier Do 17 E/F.

Thanks again to Blimp for the decals to enable me to do one in SCW markings.

Are there any interior references for early Dornier Do 17s on the web? If so I might add a little detail to this area.

I wouldn't sweat about the interior as you'll see next to nothing anyway. The transparencies are pretty thick and the framing is extensive. It's a cracking kit though.

As we've now started I can take advantage of being off this week to get some progress in.

I was goig to do some work this morning but I bought a Tamiya Austin Tilly yesterday why was crying for me to build it so I'll get some work in later on the Dornier.

Here is a pic of the box with the usual inspiring box art that appears on classic airfix kits along with the kit contents.

It's quite a simple parts breakdown for an aircraft of this size but then I am used to working in 1:48. The moulds are quite crisp considering they date back to 1971. Surface detail consists of recessed panel lines and raised rivets. I think the rivets will get sanded off. The transparencies are a bit thick but reaonably clear. The interior isn't too bad but I might add a few bits.

Hi mark

you are a naughty boy getting that Tilly! laugh.gif

looks a decent kit given the age. didn't realise it had recessed panel lines either!

I am a naughty boy but the Tilly is a lovely little kit.

Heres a few shots of todays progress.

Completely ignoring the instructions I started with the wings. I decided I would make the wheel wells deeper by hacking out the section of wing under the nacelles. I will box it in later so that the wheel well is much deeper. I also assmbeled the nacelles in order to judge how much plastic to remove. Once this was cut away I glued the nacelles to the wing taking care to get them lined up with the top wing.

I also decided to test fit the glazing and found the worst fitting part of the kit so far the glazed section of the fuselage on the side is really poor and there is a massive gap at the rear once I superglued it to the nose section. I'll build up the fuselage side with plasticard to fill the gap.

I've also glued the tail surfaces together. I decided to thin the Vertical tail surfaces as they are quite chunky on the kit.

I finished off with a masking tape build just to see the thing taking shape. I can see why they call it a flying pencil now.

Tomorrow I'll make a start on the interior......
