it's not luck it is skill glenfiddich and a straight jacket that is required....
tornado64
the difrence between this revell 1/72 kit and airfixes 1/48 are worlds appart my painting is atrocious at the moment due to doing in the evening in a large room with 60 watt bulb tommorow i buy a 100 watt and maybe start using my magnifier with daylight bulb

don't do 1/72 as a rule but i can feel more comming on after this wonderful kit

tomorow i go to air and space museum and buy some modelling supplies ( bumper pack of filler and ream of sandpaper ) especialy for the 1/48 f3

Mish
Good start.
tornado64
well i'm on a roll again with the geerman paint now on may have a play at duct taping the airfix together tonight

building the geerman as i saw it displayed as a ground exhibit at the 1999 riat ( i think it was 1999 anyway )

eng
Interesting choice of colour! What does the final article look like? Certainly beats grey and ......well grey!

Looks lovely,

it looked absolutely ace stood next to it photo's and models of it are nice but don't quite capture how nice it was on that blazing hot day ( good photo's just weren't an option in that sunlight on that day ) came off the airfield with megga sunburn ..
tornado64
Well the 1/72 ids is nearing completion with just the decaling and detail painting to finnish .
The air bitch f3 is underway in a small fashion with a modified rso , decaffinated to make him look out to the left and making it look like he's giving the thumbs up .
The air intake doors have been opened up and am making the doors out of plasticard.
Checked fuselage halves fit and compared to my previous airfix tonkas they fit together a joy so hopefully not too much filler

HOUSTON
Looking GREAT !!!

How do you get the decals on this one...I mean the stars all over...is it gonna be a random thing or is there uniformity to it after all...

not checked against real thing yet but decals look correct but in 1/72 scale they have done as large slabs with huge panels of clear film
applied with decalfix on gloss paint not a trace of bubbles but they appeared once dry as i thaught they would but i am ultimately building it for refrence to build it in 1/48 or 1/32 with hand painted markings ..
tornado64
just checked with photo of real aircraft and yes the stars do tally and in correct places must have been a major headache for decal maker

Hello tornado64 ,thank you for clearing up that....I am a stickler for having everything just PERFECT...

thank you for that... I guess you would have to have uniformity otherwise it looks ' dishevelled'

and ungainly.... Thank you.. piliot.gif

Good work on the Boelcke chap, looking very nice thumbsup2.gif

I also got to see the beast in the flesh that year at RIAT, one of several nice looking schemes that year, what with it being the 50th anniversary of NATO that year.

Good times biggrin.gif
eng
That blue beastie looks sweet as......

Nice work, looking forward to the final pic's, and thank's for your pic's. thumbsup.gif

tornado64
well that's one done revell 1/72 tornado ids " spirit of boelcke " the decals were a nightmare because mostly clear film ( so there's a couple of areas i don't like ) but such is , i did everything to avoid other than that an enjoyable kit will be making again in other raf versions and italian/german versions too

PHaTNesS
Blimey!! gobsmacked.gif

Dear Lord!!! Looking at that my eyes went funny - very impressive. goodjob.gif
tornado64
well more done on airfeckt tornado made stand for it to go onto the base as it is to be depicted at near touch down whilst landing
also hacked out the airfeckt abysmal rso instruments and made something more like it from scratch
didn't have the patience to wait for etched brass some final bits of detailing and i may be happy

Phartycr0c
M8 that Blue beastie is simply wonderful. well executed! Now anyone up for a version in 1/32 eh? EH!?

tumble.gif

I wont by the way!

Ill get me coat.gif
tornado64
well back on to the airfux f3 tonka now hacking about wings to fit paragon flaps and slats ( courtessy of eng ) yes i know their for the italieri kit but hopefully will look near enough with hacking and filling

James V
Looking good - Look forward to seeing the wings after the flaps are installed!
tornado64
a bit of bogging done , leading edge slat area mounted , intake panels opened up and scratchbuild doors added

tornado64
now nailed together and ready for tidying up , next job is to hack out for wing gloves

Phartycr0c
Nice m8 Keep going!
tornado64
wing gloves let in , and elevator pivots added , most of filling done , now to add the flaps and gear , will have a minimal load as it is a display aircraft

tornado64
finnished nailing together now considering some paint , and a piece of wood for the base ..

Thundergrunt
Stunning, great work!!!!!!!! I should have sent you my Italeri Kit that i hope to finish this Year!!!!!
tornado64

tornado64

now painted in correct barley grey ...

alrite
wow, cracking job on the airfix kit, really looks very much like the F3 when built!
Phartycr0c
That is some nice work. The in flight stand is great. I would love to try that with a big 1/32 bird but it would have to be some huge stand!

Keep going!

just used clear acrylic rod drilled and screwed into bottom of model , heated over cooker and bent for angle , various sizes of rod are available at model zone so can't see why why it wouldn't be possible with a larger scale

just remember it is the first thing to do before putting the body together so you know it is going to be firm enough to support the model .
tornado64
a bit more done , starting to look a bit better

tornado64
getting closer some finnishing off and the base to build and we're done

PHaTNesS
Very nicely done, great markings aren't they?

clap2.gif
Antony Robertson
Wow, both kits look great!! Are the Firebird markings home made or are they available to buy?? Thanks
