Spitfire Vb

BL479

308 Squadron, August 1943

Originally built as part of an order originally for Spitfire F Mk. IIIs., but built to Mk. Vb standard. She was built at Castle Bromwich, the third order of contract no. B981687/39, sometime after November 1941. She was built Vb with a Merlin 46. Later she was fitted with a Merlin 45M converting it to a LF.Vb

BL479 flew with 316 Squadron starting October 1942, then then she went to 308 Squadron in December 1942. Then later on to 504 Squadron in April 1944, finally disappearing from records in October 1945.

I've built BL479 based on a photograph taken by Charles Brown from Miles Master AZ380 piloted by F/O Stenton on 6th August 1943. L479 is flown by G/Cpt M.W.S.Robinson the station commander at Northolt. That explains its showroom finish.

o.k well guys I had to move house in the meantime got a new baby and managed to complete my Spitfire mk XIVc in 48th from Academy for this very nice and informative group build.I decided to use the decals from the box as I did not want to bugger up a set of aftermarket ones the bird I built is a heavily used old girl, the nose and props were also corrected with no aftermarket sets used and seatbelts added made from coffee tin lid strips. The model was painted with Acticipants and ademy and humbroll enamels and thats the story folks. To the hosts thanks for doing your thing and to the participants and spectators thanks for the help support and good work on display.Regards Shaun
