Rich F Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Hi all, Decided to join the party, got the Airfix 1/48 Jag. I'll mostly be building this one... Love XZ112 in its 54(F) Sqn Retirement Scheme. Got all the usual goodies to go with it. Paragon Flaps, wheels and Burner cans sets. Flightpaths weapons Stores & Neomega's Cockpit set of course. Incidentally anyone know where i can get hold of a boarding ladder? Got the Model Alliance 2005 Special Schemes Pt.1 decal sheet to dress it up. Not got that far at the mo, just the cockpit and wheel well being worked on so far. Took a while to convert the display panel to a reasonable GR.3A standard, although nearly went blind in the process. Still a bit of tweaking to do on the seat. Must thank Mike for the wheel well, I'll be watching your build very closely! Thats all for now folks. Cheers Rich
Col. Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Nice start to your build Rich, the work you've done to the I/P looks good. Tasty choice of markings as well
AnthonyWan Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I think Paragon does a set of boarding ladders in PE... As a matter of fact, I have also been wanting a set for my T2 build. So Neil...they still available?
Gary West Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Incidentally anyone know where i can get hold of a boarding ladder? Yep Neil at Paragon supplies them..........
Dr_Fester Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 (edited) Is that nose gear looking ok? Maybe its the camera angle. Doc Edited November 6, 2007 by Dr_Fester

Rich F Posted January 12, 2008 Author Posted January 12, 2008 Hi all, thought i'd give you a little update, not as far as i'd like to be on this one as i've been working on a Tomcat for a while, but enough of that. Basically she's just about assembled now and waiting for the paint shop. This kit is a crap fit to say the least, plenty of filler, sandpaper and elbow grease needed. I detailed the wheel/Airbrake bays with Evergreen, gave the whole fuselage a quick rub down with wet & Dry too get rid of that pebbley texture, and then rescribed the panel lines again. At this point i just could'nt help but add a bit of rivet detail to the wings, dont ask me why. Just the undercarrage to concentrate on which i'm strangely looking forward too. have a looky for yer self... Thats all for now. hopefully get this finished before the deadline. Cheers Rich
rdxtnt Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Looking really good Rich. Some nice detailing there
dahut Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Good old fashioned detailing work there. That is the gonads.
palacefan Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 as above! really nice. You put me in termoil about my build, detail...not detail. I think I will leave it to you lot that can and i will dabble another time.
Gary West Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Good old fashioned detailing work there. That is the gonads. Agreed - what would we all have done without Neil's build?
Mike Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Agreed - what would we all have done without Neil's build? Where would we all be without NEIL, especially when it comes to Jags & Tornados Looks like Rich has overtaken me... Nice work mate... now I can use your pics of the gear & air-brake bays to help with mine! (Still reckon the intakes should have been resin )
periklis_sale Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 WOW!!!!!!! amazing work so far mate!!!!!
Rich F Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 Back again. BTW, thanks Guys and Gals for all your kind comments. Finally got the undercarriage finished. Not as easy as i thought, but then again i am following Neils masterpiece so it was never going to be that easy. Also got one of Neil's excellent boarding ladders (big thanks to Neil) :(Still reckon the intakes should have been resin ) Mike, i had already filled, sanded, rescribed and attached the intakes before you had created yours. I couldn't be arsed to take em off & start all over again. Anyway heres a Pic of my progress so far; Next up, a coat or 4 of paint.
Gary West Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 That's some lovely detail Rich - they'll look stunning when all painted up
Rampage55 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Stunning detail work! It looks amazing. Cheers, Mark
Rich F Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 Well finally got a bit of painting done, although i must admit it didn't go entirely to plan. Firstly i gave it a shot of Tamiya matt Enamel Grey to act as the primer coat, which went down beautifully as most matt paints do when thinned properly. After this i did a bit of pre shading. Then i sprayed the bottom half with Xtracolour's X036 Dk Camo Grey. At this point i knew everything was going too well, now i know enamel paints are renowned for there slow drying time but even 3 days later it was still tacky to touch. I thought about stripping the bloody thing and switching to Aycrilics (something I'm still considering) but i suppose out of sheer lazyness i decided against it. Which in the end was a good thing because a couple of days later it dried out. Happy days again... I then masked the bottom half and coated the top half with X4 Dk Sea Grey. Low & behold the paint was taking it time to dry, 4 days to be precise. At this point i realised it must have beeen the combination of Tamiya & XtraColour Enamels that was causing the Glacier Like drying time. So i won't be doing that again in a hurry. So I'm at the stage now where i've got a bit of detail painting and touching up then its on with the decals. Cheers Rich
Fmk.6john Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Wow, some super, super detailing going on there, can't wait to see this one done. John.
