Dr_Fester Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Hi there, An update to show I'm making some progress with my Airfix 1/48 build. But first I have a confession Doc: Forgive me father for I have sinned.... Priest: So tell me more my son. Doc: Well its about this Jag build for the GB. Priest: ....Whats that you say... Doc: Not real happy about the kit bang seat so I had a rummage and found a Neomega Lightning MB seat that I thought would do. Priest: No No No... thats totally the wrong seat for your Jaguar you need a Martin Baker Mk.9 ejector seat, you clot. Doc:......I...erm..... well its in there now. Priest: I despair, 3 our fathers and 6 hail mary's and be gone with you. So the build commences "with the wrong seat installed", just too tight to change it anyway. Cockpit WILL be closed as there is nothing to see in there, kit stuff instrument decals etc. The meat of this build will the finished paint scheme which I'm sort of looking forward to. Wings fixed on yesterday joints still to be filled. More soon. Doc
Mike Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 You go there Doc! I've just noticed... my Jag's got a different tail than yours. You have a square "bullet" on the leading edge, while mine has a weedy pointy one that's bound to snap off if I'm not careful. What's all that about then?
Dr_Fester Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 Not sure what its called but I had the pointy thing on the tail but just cut it off this morning and fixed the square one from the kit, to match the ref pics I have for XX119. As posted by John yesterday. Doc
wardy_fingers Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 That boxy thing on the GR's is its RWR (Radar Warning Reciever) Heads or Aerials. Wardy
bexwh773 Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Doc, Good luck the Kat. I can assure you it will be hard work but once youve done it, she'll be one to be proud of thats for sure and ok I went crossed eyed a few times but a beer or 2 soon cures that All the best Bex
Alan P Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Priest: I despair, 3 our fathers and 6 hail mary's and be gone with you. Love to know your priests name Pete I'd say you got off lightly! Good luck, Al
Dr_Fester Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 Love to know your priests name Pete I'd say you got off lightly! Father O'Flannigan is a good man if you catch him after he's been at the juice! So a progress update today: Although not much seems to have changed much has been done which moves this one nearer the paint shop. Joints are now mostly filled, canopy which had been pre dipped in Future is fixed on. I made a cover for the HUD as shown in a few photos of this beast, gets around me detailing this part too much. Airbrakes which I wanted retracted are fitted, these parts needed surgery as they are molded in the deployed state. I want this one to look as clean as possible. I am still working out the best way to paint this scheme, I have a few ideas using either masking or freehand but not sure yet. Cheers Doc
Gary West Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Your a brave brave man Doc, painting tht scheme. I doff my cap to ya

Gary West Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 At the risk of stating the obvious, you do know that there is a decal sheet due out next month for XX119 right Doc?
bexwh773 Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 PM inbound FOrgot to add a paint colour to PM, but I will dig the pot out tomorrow afternoon and let you know the colour of the blue behind the 6 Sqn markings I used. Bex
Dr_Fester Posted October 25, 2007 Author Posted October 25, 2007 At the risk of stating the obvious, you do know that there is a decal sheet due out next month for XX119 right Doc? Yeah I know Gary but hey I'm an impatient modeller, IF this sheet is released then I will certainly think about it for the squadron markings but I still think the most accurate look for jaguar spots will be sprayed on, right? The foil peeling should be one of the more simple things to replicate, just long winded. Cheers Doc
Mike Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 While we're on the subject of thise jet, which is a totally cracking scheme, do we know what happened to it after withdrawal from service? Was it stripped & dumped like the rest of them, or has it gone to a museum? I'm seriously hoping it's the latter
Gary West Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 While we're on the subject of thise jet, which is a totally cracking scheme, do we know what happened to it after withdrawal from service? Was it stripped & dumped like the rest of them, or has it gone to a museum? Neither Mike - it was flown into RAF Cosford where it will be used as a training airframe for all those new RAF techies.
wardy_fingers Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 There was hope that this one and the Pink one were gonna go into the cosford museum, but as stated its official line was "its going to become a ground trainer". For info if you didn't know the Pink Jag was the only Gulf War Jag in service at the end I think if I remember it was Busta Gonad
Neil Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 There was hope that this one and the Pink one were gonna go into the cosford museum, but as stated its official line was "its going to become a ground trainer".For info if you didn't know the Pink Jag was the only Gulf War Jag in service at the end I think if I remember it was Busta Gonad XX725 was Johnny Fartpants during GW1, somebody here flew it during that time.
wardy_fingers Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Sorry my mistake I stand corrected I knew it was a gulf jet though lol sorry about the crap info.
Gary West Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 somebody here flew it during that time. Oh yeah - who?
Neil Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Oh yeah - who? Steve (jagmate), and he has a rather nice 1/48 Bf 109 almost completed which is currently sitting in my workshop. Linky below: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....&hl=jagmate And the man himself.... Doc, really looking forward to seeing your Jag finished, should look fabulous when done . (Would love to try that one myself one day, who knows, if I ever get the time!!).
Dr_Fester Posted October 27, 2007 Author Posted October 27, 2007 (edited) A little progress with some paint going on at last. First off some black on the canopy before the top coat. Also added some scratch build strakes and some fiddling with the inner and outer pylons, basically swapped them so the deeper but shorter ones are inboard. I admire Gary's (rdxtnt) scratched pylons, if only I had the skill. Then a layer of Mr Halfords finest grey primer which highlights my woeful filling and sanding attempts, so a little work needs to be done before I continue. The process I am going to use for this scheme will be to spray some Alclad on the areas which will have simulated foiling. Then mask off each "peel" and then spray the grey undersides and top. Mask this off and then white primer to the top and then the orange colour. Its this point I'm undecided to use masking or freehand the black jaguar scheme. Still a little work before I get to this point. Cheers Doc Edited October 29, 2007 by Dr_Fester
Mike Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Coming along very nicely, Mr Festival... get a move on though
Notdoneyet Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Doc, Coming along MUCH faster than my XX119...... One comment on the "simulated foiling" - I believe this is two shades of grey, light grey background with darker grey stripes simulating the bend of the metal. For mine I am going to spray the pattern on clear decal film and then cut out the foiling shapes. Hopefully this will require less masking and be more forgiving of the inevitable mistakes when applying the scheme .... HTH, Ian
bexwh773 Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Look good Doc, right re that missing blue paint I was on about for behind the Sqn markings on the intakes, its Revell Matt 55 which is I think about the closest I could find. As for the peeling silver strips, I wish u luck and sorry I cant help with that bit is they drove me totally mad!!! Bex
