richellis Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Revell Cunard set. Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2 in 1/1200 Cunard Line is a British-American owned company baised in Southampton in the UK. It was founded in 1839 when Samuel Cunard was given the first British transatlantic steamship mail contract. the company whent through various names, and owners and now are owned by Carnival Corperation. Cunard, still offer luxery Transatlantic travel today with The Queen Mary 2. In this kit there are 2 kits, both in 1/1200 scale with 4 of those little acrylic paints, glue and a paint brush. The box is an end-opening style and has information on the ships history and deck plans. There is a single instruction book that covers both ships, with paints matched to the Revell range. Queen Elizabeth 2 The Queen Elizabeth 2 made her maiden voyage in 1969 as the flagship to the Cunard line, a title she held untill the Queen Mary 2 came into service. She was sold to Nakhed Hotels in Dubai in 2008, ending 40 years of transatlantic service and is now birthed in Dubai as a floating hotel. The Queen Elizabeth 2 was the last of the true "Transatlantic Liners" and was 963ft long, 70,327 tons, and had a top speed of 32.5knots. The hull is in 1 part and is very crisp with a high leval of detail. The remaing parts or spread over 6 small sprues and this includes a stand. The instructions are clear and easy to follow as you would expect. There is no flash on the review sample. There is a small decal sheet for each ship, this is the one for the QE2. Queen Mary 2 The Queen Mary 2 is the new flagship to Cunard Line, she was built in France by Chantiers de l'Atlantique, and entered service in 2004. The Queen Mary 2 is designed to be both a transatlantic liner and luxury Cruise ship and is both fast and stylish. The RMS Queen Mary 2 carries the RMS title as a gesture from Royal Mail as to Cunards history as a mail carrier. Part of the queen Mary 2 speed is the pod propulsion system. there are 4 pods, 2 are fixed and 2 can rotate through 360o and as such needs no rudder. Again the hull is in 1 part and is very nicely done with both engraved and raised detail. The rest of the kit, including a stand again, is over 4 sprues. The detail is again very fine with no flash. Anothe small decal sheet is included and this is well printed and sharp. Some windows are includes as well as a couple of small sports courts to go on the upper deck! Conclusion A nice set of a pair of classic british liners. these are small, as can be seen by the penny in the shots, but perfectly formed. I am in the process of building one of Revells ships in this scale and it is going together very nicely. I look forward to these passing over the bench! review sample from
