Looks like Fujimi mangled that name fairly well, I am guessing it's meant to be John Brady (bit of a leap from "Drev" I know, but his predecessor was Wing Cdr Mcfaddyen which seems less likely) I will do some asking about and see if any of my former colleagues can shed any light on this one. cheers, Troffa Wg Cdr Harry Drew was OC 43 Sqn which is pretty close to Drev; he was the Boss of 43 at the beginning of the 80s (I reckon 79-81); Wg Cdr Ian MacFadyen was my first Sqn Cdr and we were on 29 Sqn (79-82). John Brady was the Boss of 43 late 80s and I'm reasonably confident he was the last F4 sqn cdr before 43 converted to the F3. Cheers Geoff |

Thanks guys. Based on your info, I have updated the text to show the RAF 43 Squadron XV571 with the 1980 date
![]() and also just knocked up two options from the new Model Alliance sheet #72184 - the other two are nearly the same as the No 2 Squadron Toons in post #7 ![]() ![]() |

I have to say that I do like the 17 squadron profiles in particular, but that's probably because I worked on these machines when I was an armourer on 17 from 1971-74.
I've got the Airdoc sheet and the Revell boxing of the FGR 2 to build [When I get round to it! ] Just out of interest, the zig-zag markings on the intakes were not all the same, because it depended on which way up the paint stencils were used, as can be seen on Andy's profiles. Also, they were not always the same way up on either side, so you would have to check photos to determine the configuration on any particular machine. Sorry to sound a bit pedantic . . .It must be my age !! |

Thanks for that Geoff, clears it up nicely- John Brady was my first Boss (I was pan trash) and he was indeed the last F-4 Boss on 43(F), after which we had Andy Moir as the first Tornado boss. Hey Troffa, nowt wrong with the "lineys" - you guys did a great job although I admit not all of us aviators appreciated your efforts - quite simply though we couldn't do it without you. We must have been at Leuchars at the same time - I was an instructor on the OCU when John Brady was the Boss of 43 and when the Sqn converted - I was talking to Andy Moir a couple of weeks back as the Sqn History is being updated at the moment (my time on 43 was on F3s - 92-95). Back on topic - has anyone done (which means do you know where I could get) any 29 Sqn decals in 1/48 and similarly 1435 Flt (F4 and F3)? Geoff |
