Having seen the latest Airfix Catalogue prompted me to think,...

There is no BoB 70th Anniversary GB?

Not sure what the BBMF have planned for this years displays to commemorate such a milestone either?

The 'Few' are getting fewer as each year passes eventually as with 09 we will eventually see the 'Last' of a generation.

BoB participant's will come to a close one day soon!

NB: Erwins Blitzcrieg GB states 'does not inc BoB'!

So a a GB build 'For the Few by the Many' would be appropriate I think?

While I'm here i'll say yes indeedy as i've just recently purchased the new Airfix Mk IXc and have a few other Spits to do.

Must complain to Airfix about the awful decals for it and see if they will print me some better ones!

Don't want to pour cold water on a great idea Adrian, but we had a BoB GB in 2008. However, if the members want we can have another one if you was thinking of this year you better act quick and get enough members together and a couple of hosts as the first available date is August.

Good luck

Hi all,

Indeed we did do a BoB groupbuild in 2008. But this year it is the 70 th anniversary and I know that this is a special date for the Brits.

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showforum=179

I'm in if it goes ahead.

But a side-note. When I hosted the 2008 BoB GB ,all types were allowed.Even those not realy involved in the actual battle.

Maybe this time limit it to the front-line types only .

Firs that come to my mind are:

RAF : Spitfire,Hurricane,B-P Defiant.

Luftwaffe : Me 109,Me 110,Ju 87,Ju 88,Do 17,He 111.

I'd be interested, I had planned to build at least one BoB aircraft this year.

As for the front-line types, you could also add:

RAF: Blenheim If and IVf, Beaufighter I

And a start date of August for the GB seems highly appropriate.

and of course if you want some decals for subjects, Southern Expo model show are releasing a sheet of 7 BoB Spitfires, 3 109E and 1 He-111 in both 72nd & 48th scales.

See here for more details

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/southernexpo/Decals2010.htm

Cost will be £5 at the show and we are planning on it being available from other traders after that, but it will be a bit more.

Lovely idea for a decal sheet.

Put me down for one.

I have a Ju-87 that sort of languishes, maybe maybe maybe ......

Yep, count me in with a 1/48th Tamiya Spit Mk.I... Got some B-o-B markings around somewhere!

Count me in!

Got an idea for a future build that would tie in very nicely with this.

Having posed the Q and the willingness by fellow bm members for it then,

I have got to add my name to taking part.

Will be one of the regular's ie Spit or Hurri.

With so many to choose from I'm as yet undecided as to which.

August 10 start sounds a perfect start date.

Adrian

PS

Airfix have announced the release of a new Mk1a hope it comes out by the start date?

My Hurricane is coming to a close, so i'd like to put my name down for this one with a 110.

Hopefully this one will get further than last time! ( accident caused breakage, lost temper and smashed! )

As host of the Blitzkrieg GB starting on 8 th Aug,I feel that I must point out that running two WW-2 during the same period is not such a good idea.

It will take away possible entries away from both if people have to choose to build, for example a Ju 87 either in the BoB or Blitzkrieg.

Therefor I ask Mish to look at the possibility to set the Blitzkrieg at another date.

I've looked at the calendar and it crowded on WW-2 themes in the first part of the year.

IMO there are two options.

Give the startingdate of the Blitzkrieg to BoB and run the Blitzkrieg after BoB.

Or go for the chain of events and run the Blitzkrieg as planed, followed by the BoB.

Running the Blitzkrieg in March or May will conflict with the nightfighter and Finnish GB. Don't want to do that.

I leave it up to Mish on this.

Erwin has raised a good point that I hadn't spotted.

I'm open to views and opinions on this folks.

Erwin has graciously offered to delay the Blitzkrieg GB, however I do feel this is slightly unfair. It does seem right to me to run the Blitzkrieg followed by the BoB. The only thing is that then the BoB will be run on or near the anniversary.

I solicit you views.

To me, it would make sense to run the BoB group build during the period of the BoB and run the Blitzkrieg GB directly before that. I've no problem going straight from one to the other.

To me, it would make sense to run the BoB group build during the period of the BoB and run the Blitzkrieg GB directly before that.

The BoB took place from 10 th July untill 31 October 1940.

If we go by that BoB GB time-frame,it would be that the Blitzkrieg runs from 10 th April untill 10 th July.

Take into concideration that the Finnish GB starts on 13 th March and the nightfighter GB on 8 th May.

Maybe the Finnish GB could be put more forward after the Red Star GB. Let's say 10 th February .This way it won't take away many builds from that GB as it will be running for two months when the Blitzkrieg GB starts.

Unfortunatly the nightfighter GB would still run during the Blitzkrieg and BoB GB.

I guess it comes down to what people are interested in to decide in which GB to be.

But knowing that most builds take about one month to finish,I think that if people realy want to,they can build a model in all four WW-2 GB's.

Look at this if the Finnish GB starts on 10 Feb:

If you want to be in all four GB's without overlapping any models you have :

Two months for a Finnish model. One month for a Blitzkrieg model. Two months for a nightfighter model. And then the whole BoB time-frame.

Is that good or not ?

I contacted the hosts from the Finnish GB if they agree on moving their startingdate.

Then it's up to Mish to decide further.

March 13th 1940 was the end of the Finnish Winter War. March 13th 2010 marks 70 years to the day, which is why I requested it as a start date.

I have to say I'm not particularly happy with the idea of moving it around,

Cheers,

Bill.
