I just had a couple of days between painting for work, so thought I would do a cheeky little painting of a Lightning. Here it is. The original black and white image was in the RAF into the 70's booklet and about 1inch square so am really pleased with the results. My image is 26cm by 28 cm and was blocked out in watercolour before building up in gouache.

Did you do covers for Air International in the 70's? thanks for the comments. I dont know the cover artwork from air international, but think the booklet where I found the image do have very naturally "posed" (even though it says the photos are of people doing their everyday jobs, without any posing or props) photos that look very much like the work of Michael Turner. thanks again chris |

Ruddy superb!
Very inspiring and wish I would pull my finger out and do something like this as I have had similar ideas. I like picking up books from second hand shops and charity shops and aviation books from the 70's early 80's do seem to have very atmospheric shots in them. Keep up the good work, and would like to see more! Are you lucky enough to do this for a living? regards Martin |

Adrian [/quote] I added the 74 squadron markings for artistic reason. I wanted to bring a little of the yellow local colour from the tractor to the aircraft. chris |

Now that should have been the box art for the Eduard Lightning, not that PC crap they're running with.

And take a look at Chris's website for the architectural work . . . It's tremendous, isn't it?! Wish I had a house that would justify a commission to Chris! I also like the Piers Courage & Spitfire paintings! Keef Edit: Only just found the Red Arrows briefing sketch - brilliant!! This post has been edited by keefr22: Nov 16 2009, 07:23 PM |

Ok, I'll confess in advance Chris.
If you find that your gaff has been broken into and the only thing missing are those two aviation masterpieces, I might know who done the blag guv! Simply wonderful work mate How's about a Canberra PR7 next.....please??!! |

Love the loose work on the Lightning , you've captured the scene perfectly - brings back happy memories of sitting in the cockpit on brakes - but I could have done without the early mornings!
