Next Kitty Hawk 1/48th kit (http://www.kittyhawkmodel.com/) will be... the Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II (ref.KH80102). Release date: July 2012.

May I've to say that I'm not really excited by this new release.

After the beautiful Kitty Hawk 1/48th F-94C Starfire, I'd have preferred new quarter inch kits of aircraft like the RF-84F Thunderflash, F-101A/C Voodoo, CF-100 Canuck, F-82 Twin Mustang, B-45 Tornado, B-66 Destroyer, F2H Banshee, FH-1 Phantom, AF-2 Guardian, F9F-8 Cougar, F-11F Tiger or AJ-2 Savage etc.

I wish someone would do a "C" version. Either 1/48 or 1/72 would do.

I suspect they are waiting to see if the Arrestor Hook fix works later this year as should it fail to meet USN requirements the backend area will need some form of redesign. However there should be no excuse for not having an F-35 A kit now in either 1/48th or 1/72nd.

Did not know that was an issue with the C. Like the larger wingspan...Looks cooler.

I will wait a while before leaping in and buying one of these. I too would like some stuff from the late 40's to late 50's as well - looking at my stash I have a fair sized hole that could be filled with stuff like the Phantom I, Banshee, Guardian, Skyshark, Tornado, Savage, Cougar, Mauler and B-66/A3D.

Well, as I'm fighting Kitty Hawk's Starfire (which is fighting back with gusto), I'm not that wee weed Kitty Hawk decided to release the F-35B before anything else that could really interest me...

having had a closer look at those of the fuselage parts, I don't seem to identify any sprues. The sprues are clearly visible on the other moulds, but not on the fuselage parts. I'm wondering how and where the plastic will go in...perhaps they have a new technique and the large parts will do without sprues? It might of course be that those moulds aren't ready yet, but it would be strange to remove a half-cut job from the CNC milling machine...

I'm sure this will be a very nice kit but, in me personally, it invokes the same response as the seemingly interminable flood of spitfires, P-51s, F-16s etc etc. YAWN FACTOR 10!!!! :analintruder:

However, it's another dull, new, all grey aeroplane just entering service so, I fully understand the reasons for producing the kit. I'm sure it will be a good seller regardless of my comments!!. Their F-94 was a good choice of a rather neglected subject. How about an F-89, F-101B/C,F-106,Yak 28, Yak-25, MiG 31, Mig 25, anything as long as it's NOT W W II (just joking folks!!).................................................!!!!!

I've always stayed away from kits of pre production and prototypes a/c because history proves only too well that these manufacturers use a lot of guess work and what actually enters service often differs greatly from the kit.

I'll wait for for the next release when its in service.

Don't worry about it, it will never enter service.... :door:

Actually the F-35B is already in service ! VMFAT-501 has received at least 6 aircrafts and should receive another 3 soon. It may not be combat cleared yet, but the aircraft is in service and training activities are set to start in a few months.
