Just got the Klear on today, so thought I would take a few piccies and get them up here.

Modified from the Airfix VC10 refueler, the kit went very smoothly, unlike the 720B that is to follow !

Thanks to Ray at two six for the decals and Ant Phillips who I bought the model and the resin engines off. I think it's my best airliner today, very neat, although a few minor errors that any VC10 fan will probably point out.

Anyway, here they are...

Brilliant job Neil. I have that exact combination to do in my ever growing stash. One of my all time favourite aircraft.

Nice one Neil.

That gold Speedbird livery has to be the one most suited to the VC10 - it is so elegant. Lovely model.

Considering the early '707 and the VC-10 are the neatest airliners that ever flew, and that the 60's B.O.A.C. scheme is the best airliner scheme ever put on metal, then it was always going to be a nobrainer when clicking on this thread that the contents would look great.

Thanks guys.

Still battling with the 720B, but should be done in the next few days in monarch livery. Despite the issues, it is looking rather good.

There is something iconic about the BOAC colours, I nearly did it in Caledonian, but so pleased I never.

The decals are superb. They are a materpiece in themselves. The pictures don't do the gold any justice, but they are rich in colour.

Tried a new way of getting neat wheel centres on it, I used the other end of a drill bit, dipped it in the paint on the tin lid and pressed it onto the wheel. Worked a treat. I have always hated painting wheels, but this was fast and takes the strain off the aging eyes !!! Best thing about this is, I have drill bits of many diameters, so there is a solution for most models !

Having had bad experiences getting the decals to fit round the nose in the past, I decided to cut the decal leaving just the edge for crispness and then painted the rest, taking care to get a good match for the decal. This worked very well and once Kleared up, looks real tidy.

Cheers

I have to agree with my Dearest Mental  on this, Im a Vicky 10 & 707 fan, but no expert, either way, she looks bloody gorgeous and Id be very proud to have this little beauty on display.

Thanks for sharing a loverly model :thumbsup2:

Takes me back to waving my Gran off on a flight to Canada from Prestwick in the late 1960s.

smart job...like it very much :)

Paint was Halfords appliance white gloss, Halfords primer and Revel SM371 for the grey bits.Glossed with Humbrol hobby spray and finished with Klear after the decals.

What was the VC7 ?

Love the old Airfix models. Whilst they aren't known for their accuracy, they always seem to come up well after an attack of the filler and a dose of sanding.

Re: The old Airfix kits.

Bread and butter stuff, but has anyone else noticed that they are getting nigh on impossible to obtain ?

Can't seem to find some of them for love nor money. (Actually, that's not quite true - saw a 737 on E-bay the other day for £49 !)

May just have to nip over to the dark side with a military kit or two.

I managed to get quite a few from Ant Phillips garage sale, got several tridents, 737's and 1-11's to go at. I guess it makes it all the more fun when you do get them. Their rarity helps me to justify it to the missus !!!!!

load of 111 drawings on ebay at mo that appear to be the paintsheme ones

love the VC10................. spent best years in RAF on them and flew the world in em :)

Best quote off PPrune

While the RAF is still flying VC10s I see absolutely no reason to suffer low energy light bulbs in my house.

This is a beautiful airplane.

How I wish there was one model in 1/200th . Together with her Russian twin (Il-62), they are missing in that range. Not to mention the B-707 and the more recent A-330/340 series.

I once made the 1/144th kit which had transparent parts running along the wings to the tips from the body center where a bulb could be lit by a switch on the stand. It also had separate flaps.

I don't remember the brand neither can I find it anymore. I would have loved to rebuild it in the Gulf Air livery.

Probably the Frog kit. They go for rather good money on e-bay now!

Lovely VC-10 Woody, I really like that! Really must get one of mine done.....
