I have just got started on my Nimrod AEW3 build and i thought id share it with you all

It's of course the 1/72 airfix kit with the Cammett AEW3 converstion set

Heres what you get in the set

Converstion.jpg

Some very nice lumps of resin all very well moulded and detailed.

The kit fuselage before attacking it with the razor saw and removing big lumps

And what your left with after i cut just in front of where instructed and sanded it back, lets hope the fit is good.

Thats all for now.

Ahhh golf club shelters.................................

bet know one knows what I am talking about do ya!

Ok when the AEW project was cancelled, woodford had all these AEW noses remaining and nothing to use them on, simple solution was to trim them a bit and plant them around the Woodford Golf Course are rain shelters........ so there you go, you learn something every day, the worlds no doubt most expensive golf shelter

Erm Tony

That one looks to be an MR2 nose rather than AEW3 (of course the MR nose would be surplus too after conversion )

Scott

The fits really good on the rear fuselage, but the nose gets a bit ticky, especially when you finally fix it to the fusleage, as the cockpit floor and nose gear bay are there to make fine tuning the fit a tad more involved. Ohh and ensure you use plenty of weight in the nose as the tail rally like to act as a counter balance otherwise.

Cheers

Model Alliance have released the Nimrod AEW decals on MA-176 Nimrod Part 4 sheet

Not much done over the last couple of days made a start on the cockpit but as not much will be seen once its all closed up just building it out of the box, if anyone is going to use the decal for the panel cut it very close as its not a good fit.

Here's the bits i picked up at Waddington from a well known model retailer.

The resin wheels from mastercasters are very nice.

I'm going overseas for a week so you will all have to wait for any more progress :D

Evening All

I'm back from sunnier parts of the world and as ive done a little more on the Nimrod i'll post an update

Got all the cockpit put together last night and been half asleep when doing it i made a schoolboy error and put the cockpit floor upside down and only noticed it tonight DOH !!

Not a problem as it wont be seen once everything is in place, and so tonight ive put the fuselage halfs together and this is what i have now.

Fustogether.jpg

It went together with a little bit of a fight and the joins will need a touch of filler by the looks of things.

Just a quick update

Newnoseandtailon.jpg

As you can see the new nose and tail are now on a small amount of filling needed which im going to get cracking on now, the worst area of the fuselage is the join along the top. Not sure if this is my doing or if one half is a touch larger than the other, but ill sort it :D

Hi Scott C,

Coming on nice.

I too have the conv set and decs looks pretty straight forward doesn't it?

Just wondering if I should go the xtra mile and get the engine correction set as well?

Hi Adrian

The convertion is straight forward and the instructions show you just where to cut so there should be no major drama with it, ive had no problems with mine so far.

Ive ordered the engine correction set for mine i just didnt like the look of the kit engine area, the correction set isnt perfect but it's much better, and when you have parted with the money for the AEW.3 convertion why let it down just to save a few quid on the engine correction set. Hope no one tells my other half she went mad when i bought the decals and wheels :)

Right a quick update, heres what we have so far

Noseandtailblendedin.jpg

New nose and tail blended in and the rear door thats not on the AEW.3 glued and blended in.

Windscreen masked (which i hate doing and i cut my finger )

And the small plates around the bottom of the windscreen made from plastic card, the windscreen isnt a great fit and is going to need a touch of filler i think.

Fin is just slotted in to check fit.

Used to these stored at RAF Abingdon a lot. I'm beginning to weaken.
