I picked up a copy of the file "The Hurt Locker" this weekend , on the back of its 9 oscar nominations , and for the life of me I can't see what the fuss is , to me it seemed episodic, some of didn't ring true at all, and it just seemed so anemic compared to something like "Generation Kill" - has anyone else here scene it - am I the only one who remains unconvinced that its the Iraqi "platoon", as I've read somewhere to-day....

I thought the same, its a good watch but don't think its worth 9 Oscars. Would they be that gun-ho with no regard for the rules or their own safety? I would get the robot out first every time

Colin your review is spot on, but surely you mean "bought/ rented the dvd" rather than "picked up a copy of the file"!

Er that would be Film.... my broadband connection would fall over and die at anything like the challenge of downloading an Mp3 file let alone a movie!

Now Mr Reeves described this film as one of the best modern war films he's seen.

All the above applies. I just don't think it is worthy of so many nominations. Thank the lord I never bought it on DVD.

From what I've seen it looks very good indeed, obviously a marmite movie by the looks of things, mind you - I can't help thinking an M82 rifle would make a bit more of a mess of an insurgent than in this clip....

good link, although at 800+ you would be surprised how little damage can be done the round would just go strait through, trust me bosnia was not a good place for medics! far too many blue on blues at ranges of 1000+

Bought and watched this today. Not bad, but not sure it was Oscar material. Having said that it must have been better than Avatar as I didn't fall asleep while watching it. Can't decide it I liked it more than Green Zone.

Same here, OK movie but I think the Oscar sweep was more - how can I put this diplomatically - rose tinted. "Battle for Haditha" is, IMO, vastly superior and a far more realistic depiction of modern warfare, that film stays with me to this day, I'd forgotten most of "The Hurt Locker" before the end credits.

I think the Oscars are pretty meaningless for the average film fan, they are meant for the luvvies in Hollywood, lots of politics in them. Most of the oscar winning films are ones I would not pay to see or having seen them would not repeat the exercise.

OK, its not going to appeal to the Rambo crowd but a brilliant, thought provoking film.
Additionally I'd rate the BBCs "Warriors" over "THL" anyday.

Have to agree that Warriors was superb, in a grim, life is alway sworse than oyu can imagineit ever can be kind of way.
THL is I think a very good film too, I rather like the way it portrays the soldiers without having any political sentiment attached, and I think the central character's inability to cope with being back home is well done too. have to admit that the scen wher ethey encounter Ralph Fiennes British mercs in the ambush in the desert is a bit OTT, but as a film I was enthralled and enjoyed it very much. It take slicensce in some areas - but thats what films oftern do.
Anyone seen Jarhead BTW? thats a good film too in my opinion

13 03 10 Any idea when Sky will show the Pacific on the "regular" movie channels? Not being one with Premiere HD or whatever the channel is, I will have to wait for it. However, it looks amazing. Band of Brothers is one of my all time faves. I think if you watch Saving Private Ryan coupled with the Longest Day, then A Bridge too Far, Cazino, The Bridge at Remegen and them maybe Band of Brothers, you have a pretty good overview of hte last few years of the European War.
The maybe watch Carry on Up the Khyber for a laugh. Watched Zulu the other week as well...terrific movie. They certainly don't make them like that anymore

The BBC did an excellent job on that one. My Dad who spent a lot of time in Bosnai said it was one of the best bits of telly he had seen.
Incidently when he was working with Media Ops he helped show the guys who wrote/made the series around Bosnia.

Gave me the shivers first time I watched it. Yes it's a typical Yank guts 'n' glory film but it managed to capture the atmosphere quite well IMHO. Took me right back to driving and doing top cover through Basrah and Alamarah waiting for something to kick off.
