RAF/RN SERIAL FONT

PHIL B

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Not sure if I'm barking up the wrong tree here but does anyone know of a True Type font or similar to produce post-war RAF/RN serials?

I'm making a run of 1/48 Hawks and the Xtradecal sheet which I have doesn't have enough of the right underwing numbers for my plans.

Thanks,

Phil.

BTW, how about someone making this from an Airfix T1 kit...

Thanks Pat,

I was looking for a font to install to my pc but maybe I have the wrong idea. Are they designed to be cut and pasted into a particular application?

p.m. me tomorrow to remind me if you haven't already got it, might have something for you

Thanks very much. I'll look out for it.

Phil.

Phil - they are True Type Fonts that you can download. Once you have downloaded you just go into Windows "Control Panel" then "Fonts" and it should give you the option to install a new font. You just point it to where you saved the font and you should be away.

I have used the same fonts in more than one occasion and they are pretty good. I have some reservations though, as they seem a bit too thick when compared to the Modeldecals range. Not a huge difference, but noticeable when my own printed stuff is used together with the others.

This is a picture of some codes obtained with these (and other) fonts, for you to decide:

Said that, I used these codes on a number of projects using Bare Metal inkjet clear decal paper, and apart from the complications of this type of paper I'm happy enough with the results.

This is great but I just want to be sure. Is RCN_80_ATH the font to use for 70s and 80s RAF planes ?

David W.

The font I use is for post wart RAF codes is RAF_PW_ATH, that is the one used for the Royal Navy titling, the XV333, the XB812 in my picture.

The one you mention is for the Canadian Navy codes, think it's different.

I installed the gimp file ok into font book (RCN60SQO) Photoshop sees it quite happily but Word or Text Edit doesn't (OSX10.4.x)

Hi,

Just got the RAF_PW_ATH gimp file to work in Illustrator, but a lot of the letters have a logo attached that makes it look like a demo version.

This was on my G4, it also opened on an Intel iMac but failed on an Intel MacBook. All running OSX 10.4.11.

I think the technical term is flakey!!

Alan.
