Hi guys

i noticed lately that i have a problem when taking photos using macro. At difult the f is 2 but when i try to increase it to 8 (thats the maximum my camera goes) it appears to cast a shadow like on th eimage below on the left side.

Posted Image

if i dont increase the f it doesnt really appear (or it seems to fade away). The more i increse the f the more prominant it becomes

what is it? and is it fixable?

thanks guys!

How are you lighting the photo? Have you got a set up photo of it all? F.8 will have alot more in focus, so you'll have the shadow from the guy on the backing, But F.2 you'll have less in focus and therefore it might blur out the shadow..

The only other cause will be a hair or dirt on the sensor or lens, and like above, it'll be more in focus the bigger the F number.

the photo is lighted be three lamps
i didnt use F8 in this photo but this is the only photo that i didnt try to fix in paint shop
The more in focus the more noticable the shadow at the top is (the one that looks like an S)
is it soemthing that a repair shop can clean for me?

I would say it's dirt on the camera/lens then. What is the camera?

I'm really not sure, Just had a quick look on google but can't find nothing helpful. It might be worth contacting your closest camera shop to see if they can help. I'm guessing its a sealed camera that needs opening up. If your not used to this, or confident I wouldn't risk it personally and get a pro to do it for you.

Dirt/fibre on the sensor - shows up more as you stop down...

I use a thing called an Arctic Butterfly - works well on dust and fibres.

Have to admit though - I also resort to Photoshop and iPhoto occasionally to remove the odd mark.

EDIT - doh! Of course the above only works with removable lenses! Not come across dirty sensors on sealed cameras!

<note to self - read ALL of a post before diving in> doh!

I haven't either, but I guess its feasible as not all cameras have weather/dust sealed units.

I find them not very helpful, Been in several to ask about equipment and normally I get a blank face back and not the answer I should. I find the smaller shops, a bit more professional and alot better to use. Just personal preference really, and when I've gone to order something from a shop, It just seems alot of work for them to do, When if I'd looked online, I'd have got it cheaper and faster.

There cleaning dept. are probably quite good, But I went with someone who I knew was good (Park Cameras) and I could trust 5k of equipment with.
