F-86F Sabre - 21st Fighter Bomber Wing Commander's Aircraft

Chambley AB, France, 1955

This was another one brought down from the attic for a photo session. I think it was built in the late 1980s. It's based on the Heller kit, which has moulded-shut slats. These were filled, the rest of the surface detail sanded off and rescribed, and the small wing fences added to make a hard wing. Finish was Xtracolour enamel Aluminium with a couple of coats of Klear with some panels in varying tones of aluminium paint. Decals were Microscale. The picture of the original is from that great reference book for USAFE enthusiasts 'Before Centuries' :

....and I've just noticed the fuel dump pipe is missing...and the fuselage bands should have covered the 'E'...and the stars on the fin are too small....and the pilot's name plate isn't quite right ....and I'm just going to stop looking now!!
