Tamiya's 1:72 P-47D Razorback from the War Bird Collection. Brushpainted with Revell Aqua, some Tamiya and one ModelMaster (Olive Drab). Finished with my own version of Klear (which was never available in the Netherlands) and a coat of Revell #2 Matt

Right, here are the main pics of;

P-47D 42-26635, MX-E of the 82nd FS, 78th FG, Duxford, 1944.

Kit by Academy to 1/72nd.

Just a few alterations and improvements made and were: added seat belts, replaced all guns with plastic rod as the kit ones were too short and fat, moved the aerial further back as the position as depicted in the kit would have prevented the canopy form being slid back, replaced mainwheels from a Revell donor model that had suffered undercarriage leg destruction!( Anyway they are better.) And finally the propeller is an Aeroclub product as it is a better Hamilton Standard than supplied in the kit.

One problem I did have with the nose checkers was getting them to meet evenly along the bottom centre line. Not sure for which kit the decals were designed to fit but I looked at trimming them but thye would have looked worse. The top join was fine.

Finished yesterday, built for the P-47 STGB, this is the 1/48th Tamiya P-47M kit built as a late block 30, using Skydecals. The Cowling was masked and sprayed, as the decals don't include the cowling :-). Other than the decals this is completely OOB. This represents the special paint job for the VE flightpast, as such i've left the weathering very light, with light smoke and a little staining.

Fun build as you would expect from a Tamiya Kit.
