Recommended Posts

I have been having a few Beers today...but can anyone else see a Cat in those pics?

Great build by the way, just got the Airfix kit myself, not sure whether to do the BA livery or get some BOAC markings.

From Airlinercafe.com Forum

''Hello Fellows,

I wanted to let u guys know that I received a packaged with the full

Jet Blue decal fleet from Pointerdog7 decals.

The tails are superb. For the price, you can go wrong and all

I have to say is that their quality is getting better and better.

I am extremely satisfied.

Try them out,

pointerdog7(AT)gmail.com or on "evil" bay.

Did I mention the NY Jets one?

WOW!!

Interestingly, I just discovered that N761PA was the airplane that lost the outer 1/3 of its right wing just after takeoff from SFO on 28 June 1965, bound for HNL (PA 843). The pilot sped up to put out the fire, and landed at Travis AFB, northeast of San Francisco without incident.

Bizarrely, although he landed successfully and nobody was hurt, when Pan Am sent another 707 to pick the passengers up and forward them on to HNL, the second airplane's nose gear collapsed after landing at Travis!! Pan Am finally sent a THIRD 707, and all but 8 passengers boarded for an uneventful flight to paradise.

I'm not that superstitious about flying, but I have to wonder if I'd have gotten aboard that third 707 that day!

That's really nice, Ogro, but you need to know a couple of things before the mods come trampling in. First, pictures of completed models ought to go in the Ready For Inspection forum; this one's just for discussion. Second, Airliners.net is nasty about copyright so the mods have created a policy. You ought to go back and delete the image links and use hyperlinks to those pictures to stay out of trouble.

One little niggle about the model: The main gear doors were closed on the ground unless the wrench turners were busy doing maintenance. I know Minicraft gave us all the wrong steer with their instructions; they can be tricky that way. That said, I really love the finish you've achieved. It conveys the glamour of those far-off distant days when air travel was comfortable even in economy class :)

Love the build, it's great to see unusual versions/colour schemes. Well done.

What happened to cause the wing damage? Good story and yes, I would have flown on the 3rd 'plane sent!

I have only just caught up with this as airliners are not really my thing. However, a friend of mine's father was pilot on this a/c when the engine fell off, followed by a big chunk of the wing. I am writing up the story for The Aviation Historian, the new quarterly magazine from the old Aeroplane Monthly team.

It is a fascinating story. If anyone knows where I can get good copies of photographs showing the damaged I would be interested to see them

I'd leave the main doors down. Plenty of things to work on up in the bays.Great looking 707!
