AnonymousER99
Hi all Well I binned the Mirage III today as I just could not get into it so I picked up my recently started Hasegawa 1/48 F-104G and started toying with it. I am planning on doing Marineflieger 1 markings but have a question on German F-104 seats. Did they use the MB seat or the Lockheed seat? I am using the Cutting Edge set and it has the MB seat. Also, I cannot locate ANY pics of the Kormorran missile anywhere on the net. Can anyone lend a guy a hand here? Any help greatly appreciate. Pics to follow shortly Mike
Gary C
Can't help with the Kormorran missile but Marineflieger F-104's definately used the MB seat as with most of the other Euro nations.

But, but, but... It was looking good...maybe you chucked it in too soon? Send it to me, I'll revive it. However, an F-104? Always good subject material. Greg B
Pretty sure that Airdoc produced a set of kormoran missiles at one stage. I'm telling fibs, it was Victory productions and you can get a set here: Linky for Missiles Or even better, direct from sunny Floriday matey Another Linky for Missiles Edited December 9, 2007 by Greg B

AnonymousER99
Whew! Had me worried there for a minute. Col I was just WAY frustrated with the cockpit is all. BTW, do all German 104s have silver gear wells and gear legs??? None of my refs really show them clearly!! Mike

AFAIK, they could also have been painted the underside grey, probably for additional protection against corrosion. Some things are never easy are they!!! Glad to hear you have not binned the Mirage, it was looking good to me. Edited December 10, 2007 by Greg B

Never saw them grey and the underside was Weissaluminium RAL 9006 http://www.jpsmodell.de/dc/draw/n76mff104g.jpg Cheers, Alex
coneheadff
It's tough to see on that one but you can see the difference between the underside color and the silver leg I know it's a GAF aircraft but they were all build by the same companies in Europe. Eric2020
whew very happy the mirage was not binned!!! The Germans changed their colours from pure aluminium to the grey painted version which is called Weissaluminium RAL 9006. I looks aluminium but is painted. I have read this issue on the colour before and this info is about correct. I have done this to get my machines looking ok I used Revell 75 grey and mixed it with Aluminium 99. The more aluminium paint the more unpainted it looks. The same goes for the Italian F-104, which was painted same way and always looked like unpainted skin. This was due to maintenance making scratches various oils beating and corroding the paint. Hope this info is usefull
hatchet
Mike, have a look over at Airliners.net. Search for "Starfighter" and "Germany - Navy", about a hundred pics will pop up. Some of them are loaded with Kormorans and there were at least one with both Kormorans and underbody Sidewinders - looks great!
