AnonymousA667
Academy do a range of light aircraft in 1/48, don't know if they are on the current catalogue. Airfix used to do a 1/72 Warrior. They're the only ones I can think of at the moment but there are some others. peebeep Edited December 2, 2007 by peebeep

Then I'll be looking for some letters/numerals to do it as G-BOHJ (wonder if she's still flying?). peebeep
GreenDragon
The ones I can remember are; Esci 1/48th Cessna 172 Skyhawk (also issued as Seaplane with floats) Minicraft 1/48th Cessna 172, also issued with floats. Also have Cessna 150, PA-18 Super Cub, PA-28 Cherokee & Beech Bonanza(prob ex Revell/Bandai) Modelcraft 1/48th Cessna 172 Wheels & Seaplane (poss ex Esci?) Monogram Piper tri-pacer & Cessna 180 tail dragger (not sure of scale) Revell 1/48th Cessna 150, Piper PA-18 Super Cub, PA-28 Cherokee 140 & Beech V-35A Bonanza Vee-tail (ex Bandai) Eidai 1/72nd Cessna 172 There was a really big (1/24th scale?) Japanese kit too from (I think) Bandai. I think Academy released the Ex Bandai kits too. The only one I've got is the Revell Cherokee, it has fine raised detail a reasonable interior and a detailed engine. This bits for Peebeep. According to Civil Aircraft Markings 2006 G-BOHJ is registered to Airlaunch at Old Buckenham. baclightning
Arii do an inexpensive series ($7 each in the US) of civil light planes in 1/72nd scale. These are re-issues of kits originally produced by L&S, and as such are nice little models, considering they were done in the 1970s: Cessna 172 (wheels) Cessna 172 (on floats) Beechcraft V-35 Bonanza Cessna 337 Skymaster AeroSubaru Fuji FA200 Edited December 4, 2007 by baclightning
Caleb
The Arii 172 isn't that accurate but can be corrected, its a bit of a mix of Series I and Series II Skyhawks. With SI fin and SII wingtips. You can make an S2 or Reims F172 from it quite easily though. It has a one piece wing as well which needs definate thinning out and a bit of rescribing around the tank panels. Funny reference to G-BOHJ, G-BOHI is a C152 based at Clacton that I used to fly so must have been registered at the same time as I understand back then it was all sequential issue. And how come no one has mentioned the new Revell Super Cub?

AnonymousA667
Thanks for that, I'd missed the bit in Greendragon's post where he also pointed it out, thanks to you both. I might travel up to Old Buckenham some time to see if the old girl is there - something about first solos that makes you go all misty eyed over the machine that you were flying. peebeep
upnorth
The Esci 1/48 Cessna 172 was reissued by Modelcraft back in the 90s. It builds up respectably enough but the back window of the cabin is too bulbous in profile when compared to the real thing. I though I heard somwhere that Academy recently did, or had in the pipeline, a new tooled 1/48 Cessna 172. Anyone know anything about that? Test Graham
KP did the Cub in 1/72, wheels or floats; Heller in 1/48 Airfix did the O-2, which was a military 337 variant, and an L-19 Birddog, which I don't think translates into any direct civil equivalent but might serve as a starting point for a conversion. Deanflyer
Minicraft do or did a 1/48 Cessna 150: but be aware that even a cowling full of depleted Uranium won't persuade this to sit on its nosewheel... Cheers, Dean

Jennings Heilig
I though I heard somwhere that Academy recently did, or had in the pipeline, a new tooled 1/48 Cessna 172. Anyone know anything about that? Minicraft, not Academy. The two were bitterly divorced well over 10 years ago, but people still equate them. Minicraft's kit is a totally new tool. Nichimo did an absolutely *gorgeous* 1/24 scale C-172 that really can't be beat. J Edited October 6, 2008 by Jennings Heilig
