Grumman A-6E

Recommended Posts

Another blast from my past, built probably 15 years ago from the ancient Hasegawa A-6A Intruder (in the tube box that opened from the end no less! :pig: )and so it is a bit wanting compared to the current standard of work. I will say it still looks pretty good as part of the collection though. A couple of things to improve on the kit: scratch-built cockpit with a stretch formed canopy, raised panel lines replaced by scribed. Landing gear is a mixture of scratch-built and Hasegawa EA-6B gear. The various scoops and bumps of the E version were fabricated from styrene. Paint is MM various shades and mixes to try and replicate the often heavy weathering Navy aircraft endure.

I am an air traffic controller near the Norfolk area, shortly after completing this model I happened to find myself working an A-6 with the call sign 'VV (navy) AC502'! Quite a coincidence!

Hope you enjoy the pics! Eric F.

The scratch-built cockpit and canopy although far from perfect add are an immense improvement over the kit pieces

Tail markings were painted using a hand-made stencil
