Hello all,

I am a complete novice when it comes to airbrushing, so when my wife bought me a Revell starter kit for about £20 for my birthday,I had a play with it a was hooked. Its only a blunderbluss larger area job no use for 1/72 camo on tanks or planes but I loved the finish.Seeing all the really great work on this forum, most look like they use airbrushing and I want to learn how to do it.The only draw back is the horrendous price for all of it.I want to do it properly with compressor and stuff because the research that I done so far says that canisters are a false ecomnomy.
I saw this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item45f8b8f068 and was wondering wheather this was any good for the price,I have never seen it before or heard of them.

Any help, pointers, tips, advice or deals would be a bloody great help :speak_cool:

Cheers Rich.

PS I am not selling this on ebay myself

I got this same kit and the compressor is ok, but lacks a tank, you can find one with a tank on eBay for not much more. I didn't get on with the airbrushes, they stopped working after a few uses. I'm pretty sure that was my inexperience of how to use and more importantly clean them! As they come with the compressor anyway they will be ok for practice! I would suggest doing a little bit of research before you use them as they come with no instructions.

With most things in life you do get what you pay for and quality wise this wont measure up to an Iwata combo but nor does the price.

I had the compressor and one of the airbrushes as my first bits of kit and I would say at that price you couldn't go far wrong.

I think you may find after a while you outgrow the airbrushes but the compressor should serve you well.

I have since upgraded both bits of kit

Cheers for the fast replies,I might give it a go.Saying that since posting the first question I have just driven a nail through a copper water pipe and all my pocket money might go on that :violin:

Are most airbrushes interchangable then?

Cheers Rich.

As i have posted on here before , this is a great deal. I have had one of these sets for nearly a year now and as long as you look after it it is fine. I get just as good a results as i did from my Iwata. Its not as robust , but it still takes a bit or punishment. My compressor is still OK too.

I did this freehand with one of these cheapies so they cant be that bad!

Hi

That was basicaly the set I started with, although I went with the one that had the compressor with tank.

To be honest I could not fault it and still use the compressor now, although I have now started using Iwata brushes.

The airbrushes are not to Iwata standard but what do you expect they are are only about £10 on their own and Iwatas start at about £70 and go upto many hundreds of pounds and besides even in the Iwata camp Custom Micron owners poo poo the revolution range when a revolution is all you need for model paints, so you will never win with some people.

But saying that they are still capable of giving very good results and lasting a long time. The only thing to watch is that the internal seals are made of rubber so can be damaged by strong spirits such as cellulose, but for acrylics or enamels with nothing stronger than IPA or White Spirit they are fine and will serve you well.

I know there are some who don't rate these brushes at all, but from personal experience with the 3 I have they are fine.

I had bought this offer 2 years ago. same compressor & 2 airbrushes: one bottom feed one gravity feed (different models to yours). Though i never got an extra moisture trap and emtpy jugs! Gravity feed started playing up and got worse everytime i tried to fix it, its been put away.
2 years on...bottom feed and compressor are working beautifully!
Ive used acrylics, enamel, laquer, white spirit, IPA, airbrush cleaner & water in it- still fine!

I've also bought this set and haven't had any problems with either the compressor or airbrushes. I use enamels and as long as you give the airbrushes a good clean after each session they shouldn't cause any problems. If you want to see what I've done with them then have a look at my XB-35 build, (all alclad 2), Academy M551 Sheridan and my recent Italeri M-163 Vulcan.

This will probably work just fine, but as already pointed out, it might be worth the extra to choose the version with a tank. If you do, it will be good even on a later stage, when you might have decided to spring for a more expensive airbrush.

Which Micron where you using when you decided that it wasn't needed for any model paint?

My old Badger knock-off was one of the most stable airbrushes I ever had. My DiVilbis Sprite - Spite more like - was one of the most temperamental. My £35 Grpahic Air is fantastic.

I got same setup although i got the one with tank from the same seller a year ago no problems and spares for the airbrushes are available.
Used them both and they are capable of good results and i use my Grex and Aztec with the compressor.

What was it you didn't like about the side mounted cup? I have a couple of these, and I find them to work quite good. I havn't had the one in the kit, but several like it ( Olympos hp-101, hp-102, Grex XT, XS, TS). Sure, I like the standard gravity cups better, but at least these are true gravity cups.

Maybe it was because i was new to airbrush? i dont know, could be!
It was annoying because paint use to leak through where the screw-on cup attaches itself to the airbrush all the time! once screwed on tight.. the cup would settle pointing forward not in the middle or towards you. Also when you unscrewed it, paint would seep all over the screw-on thread of the cup and airbrush. also the cup (which is quite big) is situated on the right side of the airbrush.. and im left handed to it use to obstruct my view!
