DDoS and Brute Force Attacks   09/18/2016

From the day following upgrade to the new forum software, 15th Sept until the 19th, we were under a concerted attack by a person or persons using a number of 'bots and other people's Proxy networks to carry out what is called a Distributed Denial of Service attack, which is a method by which these 'bots submit thousands of requests to the website per second to overload the server and bring the site to its knees.  While this was going on, they were also making Brute Force attacks on our remote communications port to try and breach the server so they could do anything from format the hard drives to change ownership of the site, and bombarding the mailserver with similar bogus requests, some of which left some rather telling details behind.  This was followed up a couple of days later with a further attack that left more data to sift through, which we have passed on to our IT forensics people. On the advice of our Lawyer and fellow member JohnT, we yesterday informed the National Crime Agency and requested their assistance with the matter, and in an ongoing dialogue with them to find the culprits, so we are allowing them access to the server and its logs.    We don't believe that this is a random attack on balance, but for 5 days and a further evening we had to put up with some disturbance and interruption to the usually fast response of the website as we are seeing now that the attack has ended.  We will prevail, and don't worry about it.  We were the target, and these people will not win.  Karma will catch up with them   Mike, Greg, Dave & Julien.

I'm thinking of building a Luftwaffe EE Lightning F.58. I might even hang something under the wings.

Good show everyone, should be fun!

I hope so ... but I don't have any idea what kind of "What If" I could take this time :undecided:

um ... I mean ... I can't build some INTERFLUG jets again ;)

well ... maybe I'll build an A380 in PAN AM colours

pan-am-logo.jpg

thanks to Peter Greenberg > http://www.petergreenberg.com < for this great looking PAN AM logo :thumbsup2:

I owe you a beer, Pete ;)

Count me in!

I have a stalled JASDF Harrier in the last GB here and another What-If MiG-XX from ARC's last GB that never went beyond the conceptual stage.

In any case, there is at least another 20 months to dream up some wacky plot.

Cheers,

Giles

Ok, I'll see if I can get something done this time. RDAF Phantom maybe :)

Martin, look forwards to the Phantom then, Gekko did a profile for a RDAF FGR2 ages ago if ya remember, but I still havent got around to it

Cant wait to see what Micha comes up with next, but love the C-17 idea :worthy:

Put me down for the What If 2, it will probably be a rotary wing project. Talk about forward planning though, I've not even got 2012 on any of my Gatt charts at work (yet).

My New Year's resolution was not to sign up for any more GBs until most of the ones I've already signed up for

have taken place...

but the WHIF Gb was so much fun that I can't help myself! Count me in! I have no idea what I'm going to build,

maybe another real-life prototype in a fictitious service situation or a Cold War "Zwilling" maybe....

Agreed on pretty much all the posts so far. The What-If One was very cool. I even got a vote for my build so I was well chuffed at that. No idea yet on the thing I'm going to build but there is still a bit of time to think that through. Count me in !

A Twin Victor... now that would be interesting!

What about a twin Vulcan? :analintruder:

Or a Twin-52. It even sounds cool. Doubt though that there's a runway wide enough for such a beast

I have a plan that may involve surgery on a EE Lightning... The purists will want to lynch me, no doubt :analintruder:

Go for it, it's your kit to do with as you wish, build what you want and with any luck no-one will notice what I'm doing to a Hunter ;)

Dreadfully sorry I missed the last one, the workload in the 12-month Bachelor of Education program I'm in right now is rather intense.

Hopefully, I should be able to plan ahead for this one. At the moment I'm thinking the two likeliest possibilities are:

CF-15A Eagle, 409 Nighthawk Sqn, Canadian Armed Forces, CFB Comox, 1977.

Hornet FA.1 (F/A-18E Super Hornet), 899 NAS, Royal Navy, HMS Queen Elizabeth, 2019.

I had initially planned the latter as something to do with my Italeri F/A-18E, but I'm so taken with the idea I might just use a Revell kit and do something a little more "out there" with the Italeri kit:

CF-18E Super Hornet, VFA-32 Makos (CAG bird), Canadian Armed Forces, HMCS Louis St. Laurent, 2002.

Glad to see you all thinking of coming to the party :D

Been researching various unbuilt Hunter projects and it's narrowing down to either the P.1080 or P.1100 at the moment. Dare say that could change though.

A good line up so far, not sure what I'll build yet, maybe something lightning based...
