modelman182
A 48th Airfix Sea Vixen MORE expensive than a Tamiya 48th Lancaster - that's just SO wrong! Amazon - for strong women and good books, perhaps... NOT for models! hee hee Kev
Jennings Heilig
Huh? Where are you buying Tamiya Lancasters for less than US$50?? The cheapest one I've found is $62. Also, don't forget, the Tamiya Lancaster tooling is almost 36 years old. Tamiya long ago recouped the investment cost. Airfix tooled the Sea Vixen this year, in 2010 dollars (or pounds, or yuan, or whatever). Big difference in 1975 dollars and 2010 dollars. Robert
Received mine today. Just to echo what everyone has said it is a fantastic looking kit of an aircraft that other model manufacturers would steer clear off. Will have to get another one, as an RAF versions! Well done Airfix. Robert

I was referring to the advert on Amazon, mentioned earlier in the thread, for the ridiculously highly priced Sea Vixen, circa £70 (over US$100) and the same page carried an advert for the Tamiya Lanc at around £68 (which is about the cheapest I've seen it as a 'new' kit on these shores). Age or not - I would rather have the Tamiya Lanc than most of Airfix's range. Having been disappointed by so many of their products, I can no longer find it in my heart to continue buying them - especially at the current prices. But, there again, most of the current model prices scare the cr*p outta me anyway! I shall look lovingly at my stash and remember the halcyon days of going into 'town' to get three or four models for a tenner (£10 - about $15). 593jones
I was hoping Amazon might have made a pricing error as they did with the Illustrious some time ago. I was unlucky then, but, hey, it was worth a try!

modelman182
Like £12.99 for an all-singing 1/48 Me 109E-1/3/4..? Great... if you like 109s, but still pricey compared with a Revell 48th P-51D at £4.99 (although that is the price I paid a few years ago... I don't know what the kit costs now). I wasn't trying to be 'definitive', just expressing my own opinion and the reason why I no longer 'prefer' Airfix. Kev

Odd that.
