I just saw the review for the aerotech 1/32nd kit that looks amazing.

Completely out of my price range.

The Heritage aviation one, I understand has been reworked? Site posted by Sanguin

Hmm 1/72nd vs 1/48th.

The old Airfix kit can be turned into a real beauty though...

With LOTS of work. The main problem lies in the plan view of the fuselage: the sides are not parallel as Airfix depicts them but they have a bulge to accommodate the petrol tanks. The Frog kit is much better in this and other details. I wonder how the Kellogs kit is in this aspect...

  • 3 weeks later...

Not received my two kits form Wondermodels yet, sent an e-mail which was quickly responded to telling me that they are still awaiting stock, not taken cash from card yet which is good.

They have sent me an e-mail asking me to rete the transaction, still working on a whitty response!

There are some nice schemes out there.

According to the Airfix Face book page it is released today. Does anyone have a contact e-mail for whirlybirds?

I seem to remember a solid cockpit interior, with the crew's heads moulded in.

Oh, and red polystyrene too!

:coat:

That was the Frog one - which was also in red plastic. The Airfix one had bloody great 'ole for cockpit, with just a pair of athwartships benches to stick the crew figures on - not even an instrument panel. A resin cockpit would be really nice, and would improve the kit out of sight ...

The Airfix one has a solid cockpit with "heads" - got one in front of me here.

That's the Airfix one with the pilots head moulded intergral to the fuselage. I know Frog did coloured styrene - both Oxford and Hotspur were shot in yellow and Rapide was light blue. Strangely, I only recall the Frog Comet in grey styrene.

Kit arrived at work this morning so a quick review using phone camera.

Box

Series 1 kit in usual blue grey plastic, 24 parts in total, a little bit of flash along mold lines.

General detail is okay but the cockpit is a disappointment indicating that it is the original tooling. The cockpit is closed up with two lumps as heads! Also the clear end to the nose is molded as part of the main fuselage rather than on the clear sprue.

The big disappointment for me is that the only option with the decals is "Black Magic", it would have been nice to have a couple of other options particularly "Grosvner House" which is the one I want to build so might have to look out for some after sales decals.

IMG_0432.jpg

In all a very basi kit but at less than £5 that is to be expected. The lack of options on the decals is a big disappointment as is the cockpit but with some fettling a cockpit could be built or there was at one point a resin detail set. Hopefully Heritage Models will release the decal set for their DH88 on its own to allow other versions to be built.

For me I will propably try and scratch build a cockpit, who knows if it is okay and I can get a mold done there might be a demand for it.

It should not be a difficult kit out of the box so I might build one of the two I have and then play with the other when I have time.

Review sample provided by me, but a word of thanks to Wondermodels for the quick delivery once it was in stock.

Cheers,

Thanks for the review, I thought that Airfix was offering Black Magic and Grosvenor House. Are the letters gold as they should be or yellow as it appears in the photo?

Carlos
