p-26luvr
Thank you both Don & Doug, but just wait until it is done. here are a couple of pictures of the model all decalled up. I have to paint the underside of the top wing & the put it in place. And then comes the rigging. Carl T
p-26luvr
In this view you can see where I used bare metal foil on the propeller to give it a more realistic metal finish. The upper wing is just sitting in place in these pictures. Carl T
p-26luvr
The decals are from Starfighter Decals sheet # 72-107. They went on really easily, with no problems. And they look great. Carl T
p-26luvr
The model is now all ready to be rigged. I have replaced the broken struts, & finished painting all of the loose ends. I will add seat belts after i have done the rigging. I expect to have it fully rigged by SundayI Carl T
p-26luvr
Sitting here ,after reviewing my build, the comments by Cliff B & Doug Rogers have reminded me that I have the Classic Airframes 1/48th scale kit of the F11C in my stash waiting it's turn to be made. I am thinking that this model & that one wou;ld make an interesting pair to put out on display. It would make a Silver Wings group build model, don't you agree Doug ? I mean to say, there is a lot of silver paint on this model. Carl T
p-26luvr
The model is now fully rigged. I am going to repaint the cowl & forward fuselage, because the handling while rigging has worn off some paint. I was very surprised at how well the decals on the fuselage stood under so much handling. This model being so small, there are not many places to hold it while doing the rigging. I will post pictures tomorrow after everything is dry enough. Carl T
p-26luvr
I found that I had extra time before company came, so I took some pictures of my model. It is now all finished. I added the windshield & gun sight, & did all of the last minute painting. I hope you loke the end result. Carl T
p-26luvr
In looking at this picture I see that I still have to paint the red & blue stripes on the propeller tips. The decals wouldn't stay on, soI have had to paint the stripes. Carl T
p-26luvr
Well guys this is the last picture of this model It has been a fun kit to build from beginning to end, & it really looks great. Carl T
DougN
Looks great Carl! I guess we could just have our own group build right here in the interwar forum if we all wanted Cheers, Doug

p-26luvr
Great result Carl! I have all three of those little Monogram gems just waiting to be made one day! MODeller Don't be shy. You would be surprised at how easy they are to make up. I am going to do 2 Boeing F4Bs at the same time. I have one fuselage together already. Knowing your skills, Brian, I would like to see you & I do one at the same time just to see the end result. Carl T
p-26luvr
Not being fully satisfied with the final rigging because I had not rigged the tail control horns & associated wires, I looked in another kit I have of an earlier version of the Hawk. It had a full rigging diagram, including the tail area. So I dug out my E/B sheet of control horns & set about remedying the lack of that detail. Next I used 10 thousandths brass wire & put in a spreader bar in between the X formed by the interplane wires. I also added seat belts, just in case someone should lokk inside, which one of my friends did & asked where they were. I have now done everything I can think of that needs being done. p-26luvr
This is the picture I accidently edited out. It shows the upper tail rigging, control horns & associated wires. The picture up above with the spreader bar, shows very clearly the way the cabane & landing gear struts are moulded as a part of the fuselage. p-26luvr
A few pointers on how & what I used for the tail rigging. The control horns are from the Part brand etch-brass set#72-161 control horns & turnbuckles. Each one is set in a drop of super glue vertically. The spreader bar between the wings is a short length of 10 thousandths brass rod super glued in place. I did this by putting a drop of SG in the X formed by the wires & laying the rod gently on the glue, & then gluing the rod to the front wires. The wires part in the tail rigging from fuselage to C/H is 8 thousandths brass rod. I made a very small bend in one end to go into a hole in the fuselage, & after lining up with the C/H glued ti to the fuselage first & then to the C/H. Some of the things I have missed because of lax preparation are 4 hand holds. 1 in each lower wing tip, & 2 in the center of the trailing edge of the upper wing. These should have been drilled out. There is a small bump under the aileron control rod on the underside of the lower wing, which I can add. The red & green recognition lights on the upper wing will be painted in. It has still been a fun model to build. Carl T
p-26luvr
Sounds good Carl, nice to see an Osprey.I've got an Airfix Fury to do, which I may bring forward and try and do this year or early next year. Got a Roden Gladiator in my schedule early next year too! I see Classic Airframes do a P-12E in 1/48, which is very tempting! Doug, I just got home after visiting my friend Curt. After seeing my Hawk model he went home & has built his Classic Airframes SBC-3, & has started painting it. I expect to see it finished by next weekend or so. Spruemeister
Carl, I don't look in here as often as I should! That is a great build, and you are correct about everything. It's a wonderful little kit to build, the Starfighter decals are just perfect in everyway, and more people should try one of these old classics. They are small but impressive as you have proven with yours. I like that you rigged the control surfaces on the tail. I chickened out with mine, probably because I was tired and just wanted to be done. Good for you. I plan a full out re-do of this kit with about every detail I can think of, especially a full cockpit if I can find one of Starfighters sets (which seem rather elusive), or scratchbuilt bits if I can find enough interior photos. There's room for alot of potential in this little kit, actually. I had trouble with the prop tip decals too, so I used some from Yellow Wing Decals instead. They worked very nice. I even foiled the prop like you did. Here's a look at my build from back in May: http://agapemodels.com/?p=3908 You did a better job of photography too! Now that this is on the shelf, I think it needs the P-6E as a companion. Rick L.

I just finished with 3 P-6Es & 3 F4B-4s/ P-12. I just posted a couple of pictures in the work in progress section of the 6 all together. The cockpit sets are the easiest & best resin sets I have ever worked with. Carl T
p-26luvr
This model took 3rd place in biplanes- rigged, all scales at the NOV.2nd 2010 BAY-CON show. Not bad for an old & basic model against models that were in all 3 major scales. Carl T

If one considers the propensity of 1/48 and 1/32 scale kites, and all the superdetail accesories such as rigging buckles (etc), it is a solid endorsement of how 'right' these older kits were. All they need is attention from a careful modeller. Speaking as a modeller who routinely makes a pig's breakfast of these sorts of models, I say well done indeed, sir!
