USAAF Europe, 1942-1945

Recommended Posts

Well folks, Mish mentioned recently that the GB calendar is pretty full up to the start of 2012, and that started me thinking: are there any anniversaries that could be marked that year? One that springs readily to mind is the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the American air forces in Britain in 1942. A GB could include any type that was based in the UK, from 1942 through to the end of the war in Europe. Any model would have to be in authentic markings for a British-based machine, and the GB would also allow figures, ground support vehicles and equipment, buildings, airfield dioramas, etc.

Hopefully there'll be enough interest from both sides of the pond (as well as around the world) to get this one up and running, and it'll give us all an excuse to build the (hopefully) lovely new Revell B-17G.

So, who's up for this?

In 1/48 I've got B-17s and P-51s aplenty. Probably I'd do the B-17G with escort. Yummy!

Although can we make this quite a long build, pretty please?!?

Sounds good to me. Two years notice may just give me enough me to get a project together and clear the decks to finish a build within the time.

I have a 9th A.F. Hasegawa 1/72 B-26 that I want to finish at some point- would that be eligible?

If this goes ahead I'm assuming standard GB rules would apply, so as long as it's no more than 25% done it should be fine.

I am also hoping that revell's new B-17G is as good as the Lancaster, He177 or Fw200 they've recently produced, so you can count me in with a Fortress or two should it be a winner.

The parts count is about 25% down on the Lanc. About 50 parts in total, but hopefully that wont mean a compromise with the detail. No Merlins on a B-17, and not as many bombs, so hopefully that is where some of the part count has been lost. I hope it has options for late/early bits and all that jazz.

If not, I'm sure over the next year I'll pick up something American and eligable!
