John
OK chaps, get your slide rules out! http://matusek.cz/web/view.php?cisloclanku=2007090003 Whats with the weird circular thingy on the outboard mg cover? John
jenshb
Oh, damn, I wasn't going to buy any more kits for a while... Jens
Edgar
Please say that they're pre-production test shots, and the mould has to have some work done; that fuselage plating owes more to a Liberty ship, or corvette. At least extra "lumps" can be removed; there are some on the fuel tank cover, too. Edgar
John
It could just be the photos but the fuselage paneling does look somewhat 3-dimensional. I'll look forward to seeing one though. John

The hole in the fuselage looks like there's gonna be a Seafire option.
jenshb
Yep, the Seafire has been listed as well, so Special Hobby are taking the Hasegawa approach to tooling. Wonder if the cockpit will match the Cooper Details for detail - and if it will fit? Jens
Edgar
Before anyone gets too euphoric, about the fuselage plating, right on cue, I've just been reading a book, about working for Vickers, "Spitfire Odyssey," which was written by a "tin-basher" who became a "skilled man." From what he writes, the usual metal was 22, or 24, swg. Talking Imperial, 22 swg is .0280", or 28 thou (24 gauge is even thinner.) Divide that by 48 (scale) and it becomes .0005" (roughly,) or half a thou, which is about half the thickness of tissue paper. Edgar
Stephen
Let's wait until we get our sweaty mitts on it.I've advance ordered from Steve at Eagle Models. Stephen

Been playing with the idea of building up the lap-joints with paint and masking, but not got around to that yet. Would probably be quite effective if not overdone. Edgar
Yes, I'll be looking at the possibility of using the Micromesh sanding sticks; I've managed to get an etched fingerprint out of clear plastic, with them. Edgar
