mossieramm
Hi all, well I've finally gone off the deep end and I'll post a few pics of my Dambuster, please bear in mind, my modelling skills are about as good as my photography skills . First a history. The model was originally bought by my father in 1977. He had just put the fuselage together when he decided to move across the Channel, where the Lanc got buried. Fast forward to 2006, it was dug up and given to me. As my dad will be 65 next month I thought I would be a neat idea and finish it for him. Then a finishing. Construction took a while, but not because nothing fit, it just needed a pile of putty, especially the engine nacelles. It was primed with Mr.Surfacer and I'm using WEM paints for the camouflage. I bought a Eduard mask set for the clear parts thinking to make masking easier, my mistake, next time I'll use Tamiya tape. Finally. Thanks for looking and any comments are welcome. Be gentle. David. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w230/mo...zerandLanc1.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w230/mo...zerandLanc2.jpg
Skii
Hi David, and welcome to Britmodeller ! Your modelling skills look first class from here -your comment aboutthe eduard masks is interesting as they are usually regarded as easier to use, but good to see you have the whole situation more than uinder control! Guest Hunter
Looking good David. I have a Tamiya Lanc and started on it a while back, was horrified at the fit of the engine nacelles and packed it away, will be moving house in the near future but will be resurrecting the build once I've settled down. mossieramm
Thanks for the welcomes and comments. your comment aboutthe eduard masks is interesting as they are usually regarded as easier to use, but It's their old style masking material, not the better new Tamiya tape style. I couldn't get the stuff to stick to the parts properly even after burnishing them down. Another thing I found is the masks don't always match the area, needing additional masking. Also I don't know if it is noticable on the photos or if it's one of those things you have to know to see. The propshafts are cocktail sticks. I removed the kit prop shafts because the didn't fit the props. I also lost a shaft, but don't tell anyone. More pics to follow in a couple of days. David. miduppergunner
Frankly I don't think there is anything wrong with either your modelling skills or photography - you choice of backdrop might have been better but the model is interesting enough to overide that. I'm superfly TNT, I'm a mushroom cloud laying ..... Sorry, just had to vent my frustration. Hopefully WEM wont be to long with sending me some paints. So no updates for a while. I'll think I'll watch a bit of the footy and have cool one , maybe two. English football rules. David.
JakeEaton
I'm superfly TNT, I'm a mushroom cloud laying ..... Haha superb quote! Unlucky mate! Are you using enamals or acrylics out of interest...you've got a lovely finish on that brown so far.
mossieramm
Thanks for the complement. I was able to finish one thing, the props, and when I removed the masks, perfect. I'm using WEM enamels thinned with ModelMaster airbrush thinner, sprayed at 7psi. David.

mossieramm
Maybe a few days later than promised, but here are the latest photos. I've just removed the masking. I still need to "clean" up the model, do a bit of touch up, so there might be a few blemishes here and there. I used Blu-Tac for the upper camo, and Tamiya tape for the Night. When I removed the Blu-Tac some of the paint came off, complete with primer. But that is probably me not having cleaned the model after all that sanding. Strange though that is was only the Dark Earth that has come unstuck, I've allready resprayed that. One thing I will say, the Eduard set is crap with a capital C, it the old style masking, not the new tamiya tape. First it doesn't ft properly and now it won´t come off. Made a mess of the canopy. The masks have only been on a few weeks. Two masks on the port side of the fuselage wont come off at all, they seem to be spot welded to the model (see left bottom corner of photo 1616). Anybody got any suggestions ???. The WEM paints on the other hand are great, great to spray, need two coats for a good covering. I used MM airbrush thinner, but on a different model I tried laquer thinner, that went very well, dries to the touch within minutes. Anyway enough of my babbling, here are the photos. Any comments are welcome. Guest les
david, Built 3 of the lanc great kit. If you are going to weather it remember the outer exhaust stain flow (Bulk of it) went under the wing on 1 and 4 engines. check out pics
neilfgr2
David, I would take anything Les says with a pinch of salt as he likes build his Lanc's with the control wheel upside down... and he put's Tornado seats in a F4... Nice!!! Neil

I wouldn't worry about it, I once put flame/fire decals on a Phantom. On the rear wings that is. Looked cool though. Ahh to be 14 again... Hi Hector, if you build it out of the box it is a relative simple build. It doesn't have a lot of parts for a model this big. I've seen single engine models with more parts and complexety. The only issue is that the engines nacelles need a lot of filing and sanding. David.
mossieramm
Allllll righty then, after more than 30 years it's finished. I now have a mean clean gloss Dambuster. Pheww, what a build. But I'll definitly do another, but then for me. David.
