Well, the heathen b**** who used to be my wife bought me this for Christmas.
I didn't know what to expect once I opened the box, looks good, but not exactly shake and bake.
Cockpit is a bit spartan, so I decided to spruce it up a little- I will be adding Eduard Zoom Interior Set
and Seatbelt set, plus I will be adding a couple of scratch built details.

So on to construction....

The first steps, as always, are with the cockpit.

I did the seat first.

lanc1.jpg

This has the sutton harness added from the Eduard set.

lanc6.jpg

I did not like the kit's instrument panel, as it is only represented by a decal.
I have added the Eduard colour-etch panel. I also scratch built the throttle levers as
the kit's are pathetic to put it mildly.

P1000149lanc3.jpg

These were created by drilling out a hole where the throttles have been represented on the kit part. I next
cut small sections of photo-framing wire and these were glued in place using CA. I melted some sprue into a
gloopy mess using Plastic Weld, then brushed this onto the wire until the knobs on the throttles were represented.

One other detail totally lacking was the trim control. I have scratchbuilt this from sheet styrene and some spare
wheels from my spares box.

So this is where I am at so far:-

Further updates will follow.......

I reckon a really nice high quality resin cockpit for this kit would be a big seller, and certainly get a lot more of these finished.

Did drop a big hint to that effect to Jay @ Mastercasters some time ago !! - Still not too late to catch the boat Jay !!

Nice work so far Scottie !! :analintruder: Can recommend using the Belcher Bits engines !!

Well, I spent today painting one side of the cockpit.
I don't think this photo really does it justice. I still have to add the engineering panel,
the engineer's chair, and I might add some Mike Grant decals to the panel to the right.

Tomorrow, I will get the engineer's panel mounted and finish off the bomb-aimers section.

Hopefully.

Alan.

Brilliant start on the cockpit and the instrument panel is one of the best uses of coloured PE I've seen. Very crisp details and a good looking paint job too! Nice!

A little bit more done this morning.
I have added the Eduard engineer's panel,

Gorgeous detail work there, a great example of using color photoetch to complement great paintwork. Lovely stuff :)

It's looking very good! Are you going to scratch-build the handrail down into the bomb-aimer's compartment.....and if so, what colour do you intend painting it?

To be honest, I hadn't really thought of doing it, but now that you mention it I probably will. Any reference photos I have seen of the rail always seem to have it painted bright yellow. I don't know if that is modern, to meet with H & S regulations, or original. There is quite a lot of detail on that side of the fuselage that Tamiya have totally left out, and to be honest, I won't be scratching it as once the canopy goes on you will not see that much of it.

Alan.

Got a bit more done between last night and this morning.

This is the left hand fuselage side painted. I have added the shadows using a very diluted black airbrushed over all the spars,
and any areas which might appear like they will be in shadow.

Posted Image

I then highlight the raised area using the base colours lightened with white.

Posted Image

I took the advice of Galgos last night and have scratch built the access ladder to the bomb-aimers
position in the nose.

Posted Image

Here it is painted yellow.

Posted Image

The scratchbuilt trim control has been painted and glued into position.

Posted Image

The radio operator and navigators seats glued into position. I have added harnesses
from the Eduard set.

Posted Image

Going to try and get some more done this morning, before I have to go to work.

Alan.

We've been having some debate about the colour of the handrail recently on the Lanc-Archive forum, see this thread http://www.lancaster...e...f=10&t=1915
I think it should be yellow! By the way, do you know about the 3 main errors with the Tamiya kit (position of w/ops windows too far forward, and (easily rectified) underwing vents being shown postioned back to front and brackets for the rear turret shown the wrong way round in the instructions!)

I'm building the Tamiya Lanc also at the moment though most of my work has been with the wings including Eduard flaps and Belcher Bits engines.
Regards
Max

'kin 'ell!!! :gobsmacked:
That is really beautifully detailed....I am in awe of your work and can't wait to see your progress :worthy:

I also admire someone doing a 4 engine bomber in 1/48th!!! I've just finished my Revell C-47 which has taken forever and is quite large (24" span) and I'm building up the courage to start on one or more of my B-17F, PBY-5A, B-24, Wellington Mk Ic and Fw 200 Condor!!!! (I think I'll need a bigger house...)
