QJ*F was Brian Kingcombe's

QJ*P was Titch Havercroft's

QJ*S was Alan Wright's

Any idea of a time period at all??

It could have been ,Johnny Kent's,Don Kingaby's,Ronnie Fokes',Roy Mottram's,Bob Holland's.............

Bit more on the a/c itself:

X4561 Ia 1194 EA MIII FF 27-9-40 92S 'QJ-B' 12-40 RAE 4-41 SOC 30-12-44

It joined 92 at the tail end of 1940(December 1940),went to the RAE in 1941(April)and was struck off charge at the end of December 1944.

The date it went to 92 mean's it couldn't have been Tony Bartley or Bob Tuck's.

Here's a list of 92Sqn pilots for the 1940(through the B of B)period.

Well, this info is taken from the Spitfire production lists.

X4561 Ia 1194 EA MIII FF 27-9-40 92S 'QJ-B' 12-40 RAE 4-41 SOC 30-12-44

It was built at Eastleigh(EA),fitted with a Merlin III(MIII),it first flew on the 27th of September 1940(FF 27-9-40)and was with

92Sqn as QJ*B in December 1940(92S 'QJ*B' 12-40)

It was with the RAE by April 1941(RAE 4-41) and struck off charge 30th December,1944(SOC 30-12-44).

So,it first flew as the B of B was over it's height.

If 92S 'QJ*B' 12-40 means it joined 92Sqn in December 1940,then I'm afraid it certainly isn't a B of B Spit.

If it means it was with 92Sqn in December 1940,then it could have gone to them earlier, but the question is when?

If it went to 92 within days of it's first flight, let's say early October, then it could just about possibly qualify as a B of B Spit.

I think we need Edgar to give us a bit of clarification on the time elapsed between first flight and delivery to a Squadron

and then we may be able to put it into the area of names with 92 at a certain time who could've flown it.

Geoffrey Wellum was in K-King

'Pancho' Villa had QJ-N in October 1940

Possible pilots are:

Ronnie Fokes

Sebastian Maitland-Thompson

Trevor Wade

Tommy Lund

Sam Saunders

plus others.

The sqn was based at Biggin Hill so there is another avenue to explore.
