Yakovlev Yak-28R - 29th ORAP (Independent Reconnaisance Regiment) - Soviet Air Force

Based at Mary Air Base from late 1979 until early 1980, this aircraft flew reconnaisance missions over Afghanistan. The non-standard camouflage was applied during repair work at Pushkino in 1979. In February 1980 this aircraft was attacked by Iranian F-14 fighters, but successfully managed to escape.

The result of my labours in this group build is here.

I am loathe to show it in the same gallery as those that have

already posted, such is the standard, but that's part of the game. I enjoyed building

her, so there! I hope to improve (couldn't get worse, really!) in future builds.

So, here she is!

1/72 Hasegawa Yak-3 using trimmed down decals from the Smer kit.

Made adjustments to the exhausts on the underside as well as converting the design of the undercarriage as this UA rebuild version was slightly different, Also re-made the radiator exhaust flap as it's quite prominent on the real thing.

Airwaves cockpit set, Humbrol mixes for upper and lower & thinned enamel wash.

1/72 ICM Tupolev TB-3...

Extratech etch set, Techmod decals & a mix of Vallejo & Tamiya acrylics.

Pushed myself with this one, few things didn't work that well (scrappy rigging, blu tack stains & some oil wash 'tide' marks) but overall I couldn't be more pleased with it and it's one of the 'scary' kits gone from the stash.

Well Komrads lit's finally done !!, Amodels Tupolev TU-128 'Fiddler' heavy interceptor...This was without doubt the most intensive modelling experience I've ever had, bar none!!!...an absolute pig of a kit, notorious for complex parts break down, warped wings and fuselage sides, short shot parts, massive fit problems, and poor quality decals. Thing is though I love this aircraft and other than the old iffy Contrail vac it's the only game in town !! Having said that it's extremely accurate if you're prepared to put the hours in will turn out to be a real gem in the end, (providing you've got the stamina and financial resources, coz this ones a filler and primer hog)l!!!. Several of the parts such as the afterburner exhaust units, missiles and undercarriage were scratch built as the kit parts were just unusable...

Finished in custom markings all from the spares box and using the great Red Star number 19 'Soviet Heavy Interceptors' book by Jefim Gordon as reference the model is finished as' blue 74' of the 64th fighter regiment/ 1st squadron PVO...complete with 10 successful' kill' stars and 'excellent aircraft maintenance 'award logos.

This truly was a labour of love :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: + = :bouncy: !!!

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Sukhoi SU27 "Blue 03" of the 9th GvIAP Kilp-Yavr. Basically the Trumpy 1/32 bird with Zacto nose, intakes and canopy corrections Totally ficticious (im sure) weapons loadout. Model Master, Humbrol and Citadel paintwork with Linden Hill decals which are works of art in themselves.

My thanks to all for watching and encouraging, Chris at Zacto models for such superb after market stuff, Flankerman (ken) over at ARC for weaponry advice, Phatness (Al) for providing said weapons and anyone else Iv'e missed through this build.

Excusing the crap photography, here is the final result.

The mighty Tupolev TU-22 Blinder.

This was the Revell kit straight out of the box and finished almost entirely in Games Workshop paints.

It was disappointing that I didn't have enough time to tackle the Mig 21, but that'll kepp for the Finnish GB.

Thanks to the hosts and all who took an interest :thumbsup2:
