StanG
Started on this one some time ago. It will be OOTB, I will only add Eduard seatbelts (49 002) The gun bay will be closed. The box: And the rest: Decals applied on the instrument panel, the middle is slightly messed up, I'm happy with the other two The white stuff is Tipp-Ex. If I can get away with it, I will use it, its very quick and smooth! Raw umber oil wash here: The silver is Citadel Chainmail, overcoated with Klear, then raw umber and lamp black oil wash, and finaly satin Xtracrylix satin varnish: I'm going to have to mask the canopy soon, I've been putting it off as always Constructive comments and questions always welcome Stan

StanG
Seatbelts in place, cockpit glued in, noseweight in, fuselage halves glued together, no clamps, no rubber bands... I use Tamiya Extra Thin, brush it on about an inch in length, leave it for a few seconds so it melts the plastic and then squeeze. Hold it for a few seconds and move on, another inch. You know when it works well when a bit of the melted plastic oozes out, just like on this picture: I've learned this technique from this short tutorial: http://www.spruecutters.com/techniques/117...-technique.html It's magic! StanG
The canopy had a sink mark that I missed. I probably thought it was from the inside (this is a clear part) A bit of Tipp-Ex, sanded and polished, airbrushed and its gone: A lot of reviews will tell you that you have to install the nose gear prior to painting. I didn't install it, only a part of it that can be 'tucked' inside while painting. I will install the rest when attaching all other fragile parts This is Humbrol Maskol, I'm hoping to get a perfect edge when its painted Undercoated and the nose painted red (not too keen on the red but I will turn it down eventually) No fit problems at all: I will post more pictures when some painting is done. StanG
I quick update after tedious masking and painting: I mask around curves using very thin strips of Tamiya tape: The armored glass had to be painted before fitting. It's been glued using "Gator's Grip". Dries clear, here not dry yet, see the white on left and middle, clear on the right side: The Revi gunsight has now also been fitted: Now painted and coated with Klear: Decals are next ! StanG
Superb job, Like the look of this kit, may get myself one of these. What paints did you use?. Hi, primer - Tamiya XF19 Sky Grey preshading - Tamiya XF1 Black lower surfaces - Mr.Hobby H417 RLM76 camo - Mr.Hobby H069 RLM75 and Xtracrylics RLM74 I'm not too keen on Xtracrylics, but the Mr.Hobby RLM74 cannot be right, it's some sort of gray, but not gray green. The Xtracrylics RLM74 looks gray-green. I used their own thinners, and I used no.8 paintbrush to stir it well. I always use the paintbrush to stir their paints well. They used to cause me problems but I think it was due to poor mixing. It doesn't cause any 'spitting' or clogging. With Tamiya and Mr.Hobby, a cocktail stick does the job. Mike
Nice work so far Stan... Got one of these half price from Hobbycraft a while ago. Looks like a nice easy kit
StanG
I've put the decals on and brushed on Klear to seal them: Next step is a wash. I used Promodeller 'Dark Dirt'. I would have probably used the black on the top surfaces, but I was adding a drop of washing up liquid into the bottle of wash and managed 'drop' in about 2 mil of washing up liquid, ruining the wash. The Dark Dirt looks fine, slap it on: Let it dry and rub it off with a damp kitchen towel: That's it for now! Stan

Troffa
That "Sink Mark" on the windshield clear part looks awfully regular (Rectangular) , are you sure it shouldn't be there? Super build though, may have to get me one of those!
StanG
Thanks for all your comments, much appreciated. It will get dirty. I'm thinking of messing around with pigments once I get a flat coat on. That "Sink Mark" on the windshield clear part looks awfully regular (Rectangular) , are you sure it shouldn't be there? I think you are right. I can't find a good photo of it, but there something there . Oh well, I'll remember next time to spend some time on reasearch too! Alan P
This is a little masterclass on simple but effective modelling techniques! Thanks for sharing it. Build looks great by tyhe way Al
Andrew
Stan, Sorry I'm slow to add my encouragement, but I do want to echo the other posts; this is extremely fine modelling and I'm glad you've shared your excellent photos of the build. I particularly like the way the upper fuselage camouflage 'disappears' in to the lower colour. I look forward to more, especially as it 'dirties' up. Andrew. StanG
Many thanks for all your encouraging comments. This is the first time I am showing my build and I'm very happy to hear that others are enjoying it! I have post shaded, not sure whether it can be seen in the photographs. I used Tamiya Smoke, diluted, which is very forgiving. If you make a mistake, it very probably will not be seen. You will need to pass the panel lines a few times to make it visible. Then I used 'dirty' thinners. I guess 90% thinners, 10% black, thereabouts, I don't maeasure it. I airbrushed it all over, paying attention to the number 13 which was very bright and the white croses. Finaly, I airbrushed it with Xtracrylics flat varnish. I am yet to find the perfect flat varnish, but if I use Xtracrylics and give it two or more coats, it looks reasonably good. I've tried Vallejo Model Air and Mr.Hobby and they both gave me white-ish coating on the models. With Xtracrylics, I don't have that problem, but I do need more than one coat and I need to leave it for a few hours between the coats. Time consuming, but it dries clear and flat. When it dries, I'll have a go with the pigments and see what its like. Stan
StanG
Here is the finished model. You may be able to notice the discolouration in the green. I used a mixture of Mig pigments, Allied Green and Ashes White. For the dirt streaks I used I used a mixture of Black and Standard Rust. I dusted the wheels with European Dust and they looked fantastic. However, it all vanished after a coat of flat varnish. I tried it second time, using a pigment fixer before varnishing, but that didn't look right either. I ended up airbrushing Tamiya XF52 - Flat Earth. I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for looking. Andrew
That's excellent, Stan. I like watching the process play out over several posts; your photos are as enjoyable to see as the finished kit. Cheers, Andrew.
