Peter Marshall
I'm not going to be cheeky and claim this as an OOB kit, even though I am building OOB. due to the extensive PE and masks... I also *may* be using masks for the red stars rather than the decals. Anyway the Preliminaries - Box and Sprue Shots The planned scheme - a nice distemper winter scheme. Construction starts in the cockpit, with the fuel pump, and the rudder pedals. PE added to both parts, straps and footplates to the pedals and pump handle to the fuel pump. Next up adding the grilles for the radiators - painted flat black and drybrushed randomly with some silver. Added the PE to the cockpit floor Sprayed, dirtied with oils, and fitted the pedals and pump. This is the point where you can really tell that this is an Accurate Minatures kit in an eduard box - to build the seat you have to bend a plastic part through 90 degress. But it all turns out nicely with a little CA. Painted the seat, then an oil wash, a little weathering on the seat edges and then fitted the Etch belts. The instrument panel is completely replaced by PE. This is about 25 pieces of PE in total - it's fiddly to the extreme, but it does look nice once it's all together. Similarly the sidewalls have a few bits of PE added - I love the hand cranked undercarraige, complete with bike chain. I bet they couldn't land in a hurry..... You then fit the sidewalls, floor and instrument panels together. Then fitted the fuselage sides together, and added the PE radio The cockpit tub fits (with a bit of wriggling), from underneath. Then you fit the main fuselage spine. There are a couple of joins on the fuselage that needed a little Mr Surfacer, so i'm letting that dry before continuing. Thanks for looking. gcn
does look good, i'm not normally a huge fan of PE but it certainly brings that cockpit to life. Should have saved these photos for a couple of weeks for the Red Stars GB

Should have saved these photos for a couple of weeks for the Red Stars GB Well it's for the Great Patriotic War group build i'm running over on Promodeller, the same as the Bf110E I finished earlier. Wow............... that's one seriously busy worktop you have there!!! Actually that's very tidy for me, its the perennial problem of working in a small shed - no room ! Peter Marshall
Today's work on the Yak Started by tidying up the seams on the fuselage This lead to the rivets disappearing in a couple of places So out with the Trumpeter rivet wheel, and put them back. Accurate Minatures also gave me something else to sort out - I really dislike this, Revell and Monogram do it too - WHY ! Put the spar in the wing - used some CA to hold it at the correct angle while the glue sets Attached the bottom of the wing to the fuselage Some work needed at the front. Attached the top of the wings Added some filler to the wing roots / front join And some Mr Surfacer along the wing roots After sanding down I get a reasonable join Then added the PE radiator vents followed by the Gunsight and PE adjustment lever masked up the cockpit with the Eduard masks A quick spray with Alclad II Grey primer this revealed a couple of problems, so out with the Mr Surfacer again then re-primed
Peter Marshall
Now for acrylic paints for VVS there is a limited selection. I like these - Agama paints, which behave exactly like Xtracrylics, but they do a wider range of colours including russian. Pre-shading followed, then the AMT-17 Light Blue for the underside Then the AMT-4 Green on the top And finally the Flat Black Then a coat of Klear, and hold by the nose while drying... I know this will have the distemper finish on it eventually, so just consider the camo pre-shading on a large scale. Peter

Peter Marshall
A Quick update for the morning, I've had a quick 30 min session and got the distemper finish on. First powder some white chalk with a sanding stick, then add IPA and water to make a thin wash, then apply liberally with a brush over the surface. Then with the airbrush set to high pressure (about 30psi), spray neat IPA very close to the surface to weather the distemper. This gives a nice 'patchy' finish. A closeup of the finish Then a coat of klear to seal everything in. Peter
T-Tango
Well done Peter, what a brilliant job of that distemper finish.
Peter Marshall
Another quick update for today - once the klear had dried on with the decals. Then fitted the wheels and prop and exhausts. Nearly done, just some more weathering tomorrow. Peter

Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Bleedin' heck Pete - not only does she look great - you've built it faster than the Russians were churning them out in real life!!! Nice idea using ground up white chalk for the winter wash too - will have to try that! Nice one Komrade Jonnerski
