Yeah I believe the centre two are Siamesed as in joined together and ported down the same pipe. Ford did the same on the 2.8 engine

Got it in one.

Not sure about the rocker cover, though. The aluminium ones are a different shape. I am by no means a mini expert, but the rocker covers may have been standard BMC green. No doubt an actual mini expert will be along soon...

Edit. Very soon, apparently.

Got a little more done today and done some research into rocker box colours (yawn) I have found that most early production engines had BMC green, but I have found pictures of red, white, black and aluminium ones. also I have fond pictures of early engines having an aluminium coloured upper engine/cylinder head. Problem is all the photos of the car I'm modelling don't show the engine and are in black and white. So I feel thee is plenty of scope for me to get it right/wrong.

Anyway on with the build, engine is now in the chassis and can be seen here being attacked by the long, orange, legged spider :)

Thanks all

That's looking good Mish! What primer did you use? It looks good enough to be a top coat!

Keef

Keef its three thin 'wet' coats of Tamiya XF-20 Medium Grey

Not sure why I'm taking my time and making a good job of the bodywork as it a BMC and it will be covered in mud and slush :)

Well a little more done today after getting back from visiting mum and doing the weekly shop.

The body shell done I think.

I've mocked up the seating to see how it fits. Now the destructions say that the three original seats are a two tone. Centre panels are Sky Grey Tamiya XF-19 and the outer is a 1:1 mix of Tamiya X-7 Red and XF-19 Sky Grey but this comes out a a 'Rose Pink' colour. Now I know this was the swinging sixties, but please tell me we didn't win the Monte Carlo in minis with pink seats! Oily, you reading this any clues in your book? Anyone got any ideas? I remember a school friends mum having a mini and dad used to drive a mini van for work but from what I remember the seats were a like brown?

Hi Mish,

IIRC the seats in a standard Cooper of this age were the two tone vinyl. If the back seats were left in I'd guess they'd still be the standard Cooper items? I seem to recall that a pic I've seen of the works cars showed them with black seats, but I can't recall if they were buckets. The first works Escorts that came a while after these Mins didn't have buckets when they were first rallied. Hopefully Oily will have more info!

Keef

PS - shell looks nice!!

Looking great Mish. Take a look on the pics I posted on your page1 of the car at Gaydon. All you need to know re the rear seats is on there!! The rear seat at the museum is strappped up so that the seat squab is against the seat back, and two spare wheels/tyres are in the seat base.

I've been looking through my book and the seats were Black Mish(B&W photos)

I also googled for some images and came up with the same conclusion, the seats were Black!!

The colours they've given you to colour the seats are more than likely to be for 'production' seats, not the works rally cars
