As this one is a full year I should definitely get something finished... I suspect they'll be few enemy builds so my main plan is to build the DML Scud kit (heard it's a bit tricky)... if things allow I might well try my hand at AFV's M730 Chaparral, a rather curious looking thing... and also the MLRS launcher.

Will be joining this Group Build when I have some life available. As per respecting the time of the morning, just adding a note from the very top of my head..

USS Nicholas was the first coalition Warship (as reported at the time....) (...I say again, 'as reported at the time') to release cruise missiles at enemy targets, thus making history. Please note qualifier however...

During the runup phase to the war, a combined op between a Nimrod and a Soviet (Russian) Sovremenny Class Destroyer to intercept a suspect vessel was actually prime time BBC News on the day it happened, roughly circa late August 1990, will do my best to identify the Sov. but if you're including the Desert Shield period, the Soviets were very definitely part of the package.

There was also the defiant Kuwaiti Armoured Car firing rounds at the advancing Iraqi Airborne forces encircling the Kuwaiti Parliament building on the first day of the invasion, as per the dramatic newsreel pics.

More on that when I get the time to look at it properly.

PS... Just again from memory.... my favourite news report from the war was the day of the liberation of Kuwait. Thousands of Kuwaitis on the streets firing AK 47's wildly into the air to celebrate.

One ITN reporter rather mashed his version of the scene.... '...I saw one man so happy, he shot his wife....'.

Bet you're not allowed to do that anymore....

well as this will be my first EVER group build, i will start easy and work my way up, i think a 1/72 jaguar (again) then a 1/48 tornado and im also tempted by a tank of some kind, as ive never made one im unsure where to start so any ideas would be welcome (somthing fairly easy!)

Mark for a first armor build I would suggest something easy and not too pricey. Anything that fits the bill from Dragon, Trumpeter or Revell AG in 72nd scale would make a great first tank kit as the level of detail they pack into those things these days is astounding considering the scale. Avoid anything in a Revell AG box that's 1/76 as these are re-pops of ancient kits.

If you're looking at 1/35th scale your best bet is Dragon or Tamiya followed by Trumpeter but be prepared to part with some serious coin for their latest releases.

I could be in later in the build with a T-55 dressed up with the ENIGMA spaced armour - basically concrete boxes strapped on to try and defeat the powerful 120mm shells being hurled at them by the Coalition forces. IIRC, it wasn't too successful, but they tried.

The kit is the Tamiya one, and the conversion is from Accurate Armour. :)

I got the Trumpeter M1A2 in 1/35 at Bovington back in March for just over a tenner, best of a bad choice there to be honest, but that's the one I'll be doing. Going to get a bit of PE from Hannants for it just to freshen her up a bit, and a drop of stowage I reckon should round it off.
